I provide engaging lessons in a variety of areas of music, including: piano, ear training, sight singing, music theory, music history, jazz, arranging/composing, ukulele, and guitar. Additionally, I tutor English, writing, reading, and Spanish.
I emphasize building strong practice habits/schedules, and work with students to understand content thoroughly and genuinely. Building strong relationships and a fun, comfortable rapport with students is one of my highest priorities. Most importantly, I meet students where they are at and push them to achieve more than they think they can.
My clientele has included students between the ages of 5 and 22 at varying levels of proficiency in their subjects. I provide engaging lessons in a variety of areas of music, including: piano, ear training, sight singing,
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have conducted choirs for three years, which requires that I am able to hear what my singers are singing and correct any mistakes. I studied jazz for four years, during which time I honed my ear training abilities. My knowledge of piano gives me a visual understanding of what I am hearing, and my knowledge of singing has given me practice in turning the notes that I see into sound. Ear training is what I am most comfortable teaching.
I have been conducting choirs for three years, and being proficient at sight singing is the number one qualification for conducting. I can sing through pretty much any piece of music accurately. I received High Honors from the Wesleyan University Music Department for my efforts in singing and conducting.
