About Beth

I'm an experienced corporate editorial specialist and professional non profit grant writer. I spent ten years in the HR consulting field with two firms (TPF&C and Alexander & Alexander), creating employee benefit statements and summary plan descriptions, and editing consulting reports for executives. I also spent 15 years writing successful grant applications for schools and libraries in Vermont (ask me for a list of these if interested).

My strengths are in helping the adult writer organize thoughts, flesh out summaries and punch up writing to be clear, accurate and concise. In the process of working through a document, the writer will learn details about writing mechanics and use of the active voice to keep the reader engaged. I work with writers of graduate school application essays, grant applications, business reports, resumes, cover letters, correspondence and other writing projects.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Grammar

I have gained most of my grammar skills through reading. My rigorous private college preparatory school also trained me in proper sentence structure. I will always offer clear explanations for the reasons for certain usages, which I believe are key to building a strong foundation in grammar.

Proofreading

My experience in corporate and non profit writing demanded that I be meticulous in proofreading. I have a keen eye for errors, which often jump off the page at me. I can help any student identify common and complex errors, and explain clearly why they need to be changed.

Writing

My degree in Journalism ensures that my writing skills are top-notch. I help adult students with expository and persuasive writing in both academics and business, teaching how to keep the reader of even complex material engaged.
