I am a career tutor, with standardized test preparation as my full-time job since 2012. I am an expert in not only the content and strategies of the SAT and ACT but also the myriad ways to teach the exam to students with different learning styles.

I've been working with students since 2010 after I graduated from Haverford College with a BS in molecular biology and started a PhD program in biological anthropology at Yale University. During my time at Yale, I began tutoring the SAT and ACT for a local tutoring company in Connecticut. Over the years, I've started my own tutoring company, written questions for popular SAT apps, produced content for SAT/ACT YouTube videos, written test questions for McGraw-Hill test prep books, and taught SAT/ACT courses all over the world at American Schools.

Patience, perseverance, and positivity are my three tenets of teaching. I understand that college admissions can be a daunting process, so I enjoy being able to inject a little fun into standardized test prep work. If I can get my students to loosen up a little, laugh while learning, and leave the session smiling, I consider it a job well done.

The types of students who respond best to my teaching style are those that are extremely driven and place a high priority on their homework and our sessions - it's all about mentality! These students generally improve 200-300 points on the SAT and 4-6 points on the ACT after working with me. Additionally, I have had great success with students who are struggling to improve their score due to anxiety or low self-esteem (I struggled with test anxiety all throughout high school).

Please message me if you'd like more information about how I structure my courses. There is no set number of sessions that students are required to take, and I structure each prep course specifically with a student's needs in mind.

ACT English,

ACT English

I've taught the ACT since 2010. The English section is a game of patterns, and I teach students how to recognize those specific patterns. On average, my students seen 6 points of improvement on the English section after 10 weeks of tutoring.
ACT Reading,

ACT Reading

I've worked as an ACT tutor since 2010. Reading is a very unique section on the ACT with unusual patterns that generally go unnoticed by students. I often hear from my students that they've learned more about the ACT reading section after one session than they've learned from any previous ACT prep course. I've had students increase their reading score 6-8 points after one session, simply by implementing the strategies I provide. For other students, however, it can take more practice to see those big score jumps.
SAT Reading,

SAT Reading

I've taught the SAT since 2010. In 2016, the SAT drastically changed format which required many tutors to re-educate themselves on the format, structure, and patterns of the test. I was contracted to create test questions for McGraw-Hill's SAT Guide in 2016 and feel I have a better grasp of question structure and style than perhaps most tutors do in the industry. SAT Reading is incredibly formulaic, and I teach students to tune into the tried and true patterns of this section.
SAT Writing,

SAT Writing

SAT students who complete all homework and assignments each week can expect to see an average improvement of 300 points after 10-12 hours of lessons. I've worked as a standardized test prep tutor and college essay coach for four years through PrepNow and The Learning Edge (local company in CT).

SAT Math,

SAT Math

I've taught the SAT since 2010. In 2016, I was contracted to create questions for McGraw-Hill's SAT Guide and have a deep understanding of the types of questions tested on this section. The math section of the SAT is incredibly formulaic, and through diligent studying and review, students can master repetitive concepts. Many SAT math q's are multi-step and involve a deep understanding of certain math concepts. For this reason, I teach foundational math first then begin building on that with more difficult but related concepts. This is the crux of what math education should be and what the SAT math section tests; however, many students learn certain areas of math as discrete units and don't realize how they connect to other math concepts. My teaching tried to address that gap.
