College of the Atlantic (Pending)
My name is Joe and I play and teach the drums. I have 15+ years of experience on drum set and have studied a breath of contemporary, classical, and non-western percussion styles at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, ME and Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec.
For beginners, I like to teach from the ground up, working mostly on snare fundamentals, rhythm exercises, hand technique, and basic grooves. Focus is generally on reading, mechanics/technique, coordination, and playing in a band situation. All styles.
For more experienced players, I integrate new playing styles with traditional techniques.
My relaxed presentation works well with kids and adults and I believe in catering to what the student wants out of the experience. I prepare serious students to develop genuine facility on the instrument but also believe that learning a musical instrument, especially drums, can give more casual players a new appreciation for what they are listening to.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a percussionist with 9 years of experience in both classic rock bands and school bands with expectations to enter college to study percussion and sound engineering. Currently, I teach beginners the fundamentals of the drum --from drum set to snare and Latin percussion. Depending on the student's aptitude, teachings can include a variety of rudiments as well as stick control through complex technique and rhythm instruction.
I have won several awards for percussion through my school and outside competitions. My relaxed presentation works well with kids and adults. If it’s your first time on your drums or you’ve been playing for a year or two, then I’m your tutor. Through my tutelage, the experience of drumming is a great way to determine if percussion is "your thing" for the beginner to the intermediate drummer.
I completed my Bachelors of Liberal Arts at College of the Atlantic in June 2014, where I focused on music and writing. I've tutored many of my peers throughout my undergrad experience and continue to do so today. In school I grew to having continually high marks on both analytical and persuasive writing styles with acute attention to grammar, voice, form, and audience. I consider myself an excellent writer and tutor of writing.
