My name is Bill. Let's get the formal stuff out of the way - shall we? I have been teaching and been a school administrator for nearly 30 years (wow - that seems like a long time!). I have a BS degree in Elementary Education and an MA degree in Teaching. I have worked in grades 1-9 teaching a variety of subject matter over the years. But more important than that, I love teaching. I enjoy seeing a student have the AHA moment when they have mastered that tough problem. That makes it all worthwhile!
When working with a student, I like to take a big concept and break it down into small bite-sized chunks. By using real-life examples, a bit of humor, and some old fashioned 'common sense' it's remarkable what can be accomplished. Organizational problems? I can help with that too.
I strongly feel that the best results will be obtained when the student and the supporting family members are actively engaged in the learning process. As the student progresses, and is shown support and encouragement, the often present -discouragement- starts to melt away and THAT is so important!
My specialty is grades 4-8 (I have taught in multi-grade schools). If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. I look forward to hearing from you! Greetings!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught elementary math (all Grades) as well as some 9th grade Algebra for nearly 30 years. I am certified to teach Math grades 1-8. Math is exciting and fun! I love the challenge of developing the logical thought process. I look forward to helping you.
I have taught elementary Science for more than 25 years. Although I have taught all Elementary Science levels (Grades 1-8), my primary focus for most years was Grades 5-8. This included General Science, Life Science, and Physical Science.
I have taught English - both Grammar and Creative Writing - to elementary students - and occasionally 9th grade freshman - for a number of years. In addition to that, I was the project coordinator and proofreader for a teacher publication that was produced during the summer. While I don't promise to know every English grammar rule or every exception (there are a lot of them), I do have a good working knowledge of the subject, and the ability to research any questions that I don't have the answers to.
In addition to teaching elementary and middle school English classes, I was a proofreader and project coordinator for a teacher publication during the summer months for over 10 years. Between teaching proofreading as a part of the writing process, and actually being a proofreader, I have a wealth of knowledge in this area.
