About Nathanael

I used to teach economics in a traditional classroom, now I teach online. I like one-on-one tutoring because I can adapt the pace to the student's needs, and enable every student to master concepts. In the past, I've tutored students in economics and math. But I'm also a great history lover, and a clever and enthusiastic computer programmer.

I've published or self-published, solo or with a co-author, a lot of articles, four non-fiction books, and one fairy tale. I love to write, and to help others write. I love to encourage critical thinking, emulating the ancient philosopher Socrates, who led people to knowledge by asking them questions that led them to discovery.

I learned Java programming as a PhD student at George Mason, where I created sophisticated "agent-based" simulations of the economy.

I learned Stata as a Master's student at Harvard and used it extensively in research I've conducted since for the World Bank and in my academic research.

I taught economics full-time for four years at the university level.

I was a history major at Notre Dame and have been an avid reader of history ever since.

I'm easy-going, friendly, and would love to meet you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I have advanced degrees in math-related fields and have written algebra content for a GRE test prep course.

Economics

PhD in economics, four years university teaching

Finance

I used to be a professor of economics and finance in a small Christian college. I helped design a test prep course for the CFA exam.

Geometry

I have written geometry content for a GRE test prep class.

GRE

I got an almost perfect score on the GRE, and later oversaw the development of a GRE test prep course for an education technology company.

Java

I used a lot of Java for my dissertation and have written some research applications.

SAT Math

I aced the SAT (score of 1590) and since then I've completed a Bachelors and some Masters degrees, aced the GRE, and done some work on a GRE test prep product.

STATA

I used STATA for several years in graduate school, as a consultant at the World Bank, and for my academic research as a professor.

World History

I was a history major in college, at the University of Notre Dame, and have been an avid reader of history ever since. My PhD work was in economics, but it involved history and helped to deepen my knowledge of it.

Teacher, not just tutor — Nathanael is a GREAT tutor!! I was completely lost in my economics course (Arkansas State 2333) before meeting with him. He patiently worked through problems with me. Before going to him, I took and retook the chapter quiz and the highest grade I could get was a 72. After just an hour and half with Nathanael, I took it again on my own and got a 92!!! ...
