About Kathy

Hello, my name is Kathy and I have been working with children in the classroom setting for several years. I taught swimming lessons to children from 4 to 17 years and have been tutoring a young man in reading and vocabulary for three years now. I am in school for elementary education and special assistance working to become a teacher for the elementary child.
The way I work is through play and visual aids to teach a lesson as some children need a little more help than the verbal and reading aspect. Some teachers don't always know the way to teach a visual child or a hands on child. For me that was the only way I figured out my math, my science and many more subjects.
I worked for KBIA or Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association where I worked with young children in Elementary School in exploring the beach, the trees and animals. I was really good at looking at the snails, leaves, flowers and many other fun projects so I enjoy in making the leaves into a little picture book for kids to look through or turn into a story.
I look forward to working with the younger children but can help the older kids as well in many subjects. Hopefully, the kids enjoy my lessons as we go through them and parents, we are going to have fun.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I loved American history as my grandmother was an archaeologist and she studied Native artifacts.

Biology

This was another of my favorite subjects and I excelled in the class in high school. The study of plants, organisms and genetics were a major favorite.

Clarinet

I have played clarinet in school and as part of a community band and jazz band. I have been playing it since I was in 4th grade

Hard Of Hearing

I am personally hard of hearing so I have learned to adapt and hope to help others in a similar situation

Macintosh

I used a Macintosh computer in school and in high school, so I do know how they work as well as how to load onto them what a person needs. I have been working with these computers for years and know how they handle and what can go wrong with them, as well as how to get them connected to the internet and set up for daily use.

Needlework

Depending on what you are looking at for needle work, I can do embroidery and hand sewing. I have put boarders on quilts which requires tiny stitching, and hemming of dresses and embroidery of many pictures or prayers.

Sewing

I have made pajamas, dresses, quilts and many other things requiring sewing on any sort. Hemming, mending darning and many other tasks

Swimming

I was a certified WSI or Water Safety Instructor and personally swam on my high school swim team with the front crawl.

Vocabulary

I have a very extensive vocabulary, and have taught the same to my kids, from the age three to ten years old. I loved to read and write and spell so I have quite a vocabulary myself. In school I did very well with the testing.

Writing

I have been writing essays and short stories for a long time and took a high school class for creative writing as a Senior. It was part of the English requirements and I thoroughly enjoyed it with my teachers.
