I truly believe that it is important for every student to understand math. Math surrounds us and is everywhere we look. On a regular basis, concepts of mathematics are being used. My job is to teach the math content in a way that is easy to understand and use. Currently, I have my K-8 mathematics certification, a k-12 ESL endorsement, and my Master's in Educational Leadership. I have been teaching all levels of math for the past 5 years, from kindergarten material all the way to Geometry. I currently teach ELL Algebra 1 and Geometry in high school.
I have mastered the art of differentiation due to my clientele. Students that leave my classroom have a better understanding and grasp of the math content. Students have transferred into my class from other teachers, because they have heard from other students that I teach the content in a way that is easy to understand. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching Algebra 1 the past 4 years. I have my k-8 certification as well as my ELL k-12 certification that covers Algebra 1 in school districts. I also have tutored a few 1st year individuals in college algebra. I also have taught algebra 1 in summer school for credit recovery.
When I was first hired in 2008, I taught a class that focused on k-2 math material, a class on 3-5 material, and a class on 6-8 material. The students in this class had to pass each level, before moving to the mainstream algebra 1 class. I also teach ELL elective math in summer school that focuses on the foundations of k-8 math content.
I have been teaching Geometry the past 2 years. My ESL k-12 certification gives me the highly qualified status to teach the material. Teaching ELL students, I have the ability and knowledge of differentiation to help assist students in understanding geometry.
