About Shari

Educating children is my true passion. I take great satisfaction in helping children become well rounded and responsible members of the community. There are many different paths to learning, each individual moves along his/her own path at their own pace. I use a variety of teaching techniques so that I reach the visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners.

I have a B.S., in Elementary Education, Reading Specialization and a Masters in Special Needs. I am also Wilson Certified and trained in the Lindamood-Bell processes. If you have a student who is struggling in school I am confident I can help.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have a masters in special needs from Lesley College. I have taught in an integrated classroom which included students with ADD/ADHD. I have also read and attended workshops by Edward Hallowell and consider myself very capable of working with children with ADD/ADHD.

Dyslexia

I am Wilson Language certified and trained in the Lindamood-Bell processes. These programs focus on the process of reading instead of just the subject.

Wilson Language is based on Orton-Gillingham principles. It is a very structured program that focuses on the structure of language.

Lindamood-Bell follows specific steps to help students develop their sensory-cognitive skills with the goal of self-monitoring, self-correction and, ultimately, independence.

I have tutored many students using these programs. My students have gone from being reluctant readers and writers to confident readers and writers.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified elementary school teacher with a masters in special needs. I have years of classroom experience and enjoy working with children of all ages. There is nothing more rewarding than working with children and seeing then become more confident learners.

Phonics

I have a BS in Elementary Ed and a MA in Special Needs with a Specialization in Reading from Lesley University. I have several years of classroom experience working with all types of learners. I am also Lindamood Bell trained and Certified in Wilson Reading, both programs use a multisensory approach to teach phonemic awareness.

Special Needs

I am dual certified in Elementary Education and have a MA in Special Needs. I have spent years teaching in integrated classrooms. I have adapted lessons to meet the needs of my students and their individual education plans. I strongly believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. Everything that I do while working with students supports this love and helps students to fulfill their potentials.
