Hello potential students and parents of potential students! My name is Sarah, and I am currently licensed to teach English in MA. I have filed paperwork, and am scheduling to take the necessary test in order to get my Maine license. I have passed a background check and have CHRC approval as of April 1, 2013. The program that I went through to gain my Bachelors in English was an English Education program. What that means is that I not only have extensive knowledge in the content area, I also have been trained in planning effective lessons and running a classroom. Although this may not seem important, it means that I know how to track and improve upon student results. I know what teachers look for in an essay or literary analysis. A few other things that I feel I should include are that I have gained scholarships for both the SAT and MCAS (the MA standardized test). I also have been to a National Honors Society conference for English in college, where I presented my original work. I hope that you will choose me to tutor you or your child, as I really do love to teach! I look forward to working with you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
