About Dana

I've been teaching various disciplines since my early teens. Over the years, I have taught Karate, Skiing, Acting, Directing, Drums, Writing, Reading and French at advanced levels, and general education subjects at grade school and high school levels as a tutor and substitute teacher.

By trade, I am an award-winning film and theatre producer, director, and actor, and professional drummer. My demeanor is calm, friendly and encouraging. I genuinely love teaching, and enjoy discovering with students the best ways for them to learn and advance. I am a member of the Directors Guild of America, the Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity Association, and am completing a degree in Music and Theatre in order to expand my teaching opportunities. I look forward to meeting you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have played the drums since the age of seven, and have taught for many years. I've played with various Jazz, Blues and Rock groups, and often play in pit bands for musicals. After many years, I am now completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music.

Elementary (K-6th)

I've worked with young children as a substitute teacher, and have also taught Karate, Skiing and Drums to elementary school children. I believe I am an excellent teacher of children, but I am not formally qualified.

I have produced, directed and edited an award-winning 16mm short film and two critically acclaimed and award-winning feature films, both with worldwide distribution. I am the co-founder of a film production company, and have several productions in development. I'm also a member of the Directors Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild.

I took French in elementary school, then four years in high school, and conversational French in college. I've also been to France three times, where I spoke French only. I'm now reviewing French again with my wife, who is learning via the Rosetta Stone program. It's a language I'm comfortable teaching. : )

Public Speaking

I do a lot of public speaking in my work, and am familiar with many of the issues surrounding this activity. On some level, acting is a form of public speaking. I often coach people on posture, vocal projection, relaxation, control of the body, and the effective communication of ideas. I frequently give presentations to investor groups and producers while developing films, and often introduce acts at the non-profit arts organization for which I am the Artistic Director.

I studied Theatre throughout elementary and high school, and majored in Theatre in college before beginning a career in the Theatre. I have now run a successful professional Theatre company for twenty-five years, and have directed over 70 plays and acted in many more. I am also a member of Actors Equity Association.
