University of Maine (Elementary Education)
My name is Sarah D. and I graduated from the University of Maine in 2004 with a BS in Elementary Education. After graduating college, I moved to North Carolina and lived there for ten years. Now back home in Maine, I live with my 19 month old daughter and my two cats. I enjoy doing things with my daughter, reading, scrapbooking, and watching the Patriots and Red Sox!
I am currently in my 11th year of teaching - I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, grades. I taught ten years in North Carolina and have just moved home to Maine and am now teaching 3rd grade. I also have tutoring experience. I worked as a tutor at the Emily Krzyzewski Center in Durham, NC for five years tutoring everything from kindergarten to fourth grade. I also worked with students after school at the school I was working at. I take a lot of pride in seeing my students grow and reach the best of their abilities.
I have taught math in grades 2, 3, and 4. I have also created math assessments for state standards, and then for common core standards as well.
I have taught varying levels of readers, including extensive experience with ESL students. I have had students make over 2 years growth during one school year. I have also designed assessments in reading, aligning questions with higher order thinking skills.
I have been trained extensively in the common core standards, including understanding what they are asking for, assessing students in the standards, and designing appropriate curriculum to align with them.
I have taught science in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. I have specific experience in teaching about the earth, moon, and sun, human body, energy, soil, plants, and animal habitats.
Please contact me for more information. I look forward to hearing from you so we can schedule a lesson! Thank you for your time! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
