Hi! My name is Audrey and I have been teaching children and adults how to become confident readers and writers for most of my adult life. Currently I am a Literacy Specialist/Coach. I work with teachers around what is "best practice" and how to integrate research based intervention and instruction into their classrooms throughout the day. I also work with small groups of children in a variety of ways. I work with students who are struggling to learn to read and write and with students who need to be challenged and extended academically. I have been trained in Reading Recovery and am certified as a Wilson Instructor. I also have training through the Teacher's College Reading And Writing Project, which was developed by Lucy Calkins. I love teaching and I love to instill a love of reading in my students. I am currently working on my CAS in Literacy through the University of Maine at Orono. I have also run my own educational services business which provided services to students of all ages from preschool through high school in one to one settings and in small groups in homework, reading, writing, SAT prep, math, students with learning disabilities, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and helping students with organizing their academic life.

I am a Literacy Specialist and a Literacy Coach K-12. I have my K-8 Teacher's Certification through the state of Maine. I have been teaching students how to study for test prep, homework organization, and SAT prep for 5 years. I currently work with a 22 year old adult who is taking college courses. One of my focuses with her is how to study for exams, quizzes, multiple- choice questions, fill in the blanks, short answer responses and vocabulary understanding within the context of the exam questions. I also help her organizer her calendar to keep up to date on her assignments- time management, check-lists, note-taking, graphic organizers, binder organizing for each subject area, and ways to keep track of assignments and when they are due- for example: a white board in her room with important dates and deadlines, a small pocket notebook for quick class notes and reminders that she looks at every day, electronic calendars in sync with all her devices, along with a paper calendar close to her work space in her room. We also organize and plan the most effective use of her homework space to avoid distraction- desk away from the door and window, files organized, drawers organized with only study supplies, and always a clean desk at the end of each study session so they can be ready to begin fresh the next study session.

ADHD,

ADHD

I have worked with many students over the last 24 years as a classroom teacher, a tutor, as a mom, and as an owner of a private tutoring business in Fort Myers. I am a certified teacher, a literacy specialist, a certified literacy coach, trained and certified in several Orton-Gillingham based reading programs and have taken workshops and been to conferences pertaining to special needs students and students with attention issues. One of the powerful aspects of tutoring is it is a 1:1 situation and many of the ADD/ADHD behaviors are not present because there are not as many distractions as there would be for small group instruction or in a school. Also, the type of instruction I use is multi-sensory so the students will be use all modalities to learn- fine-motor, gross- motor, visual, auditory, and tactile. Students are able to practice work up on a white board, using manipulatives and transferring that information into reading and writing at their seats. This type of teaching and 1:1 situations bodes well for students who have attention issues.
