My long term part time day job is doing residential energy audits. In my working life, I've been a linoleum installer, forestry lab worker, organic farmer, carpenter, an officer in the US Navy. My education includes a B. Sci in Agricultural Engineering Technology (shop skills) and a second B. Sci in Environmental Science, Master Gardener, and small airplane pilot certificate. I have coursework in beekeeping and entomology, microbiology, environmental chemistry, geology, oceanography, and limnology (lakes and rivers), astronomy, mycology, navigation, and naval engineering topics. My background has been evaluated as suitable for teaching any high school level science, either physical or biologica.

I'm in my middle 50s. I've done a little one on one tutoring, and was a long term substitute teaching physics for about three months at a local alternative high school. I've taught an introduction to organic gardening class every year since 2003. In my energy auditor job, I tutor my clients on how heat and moisture move and the implications of various building features. Now I want to extend that to online tutoring.

What makes me good is that I've not just studied the material, but have considered it long enough and used it in my life that I see some of the connections between disciplines. I love to see how the parts fit together. My background includes both the science and engineering sides, and they complement each other and give me a breadth of knowledge that not many tutors will be able to match. I could probably tutor some other subjects, but they say it's best to specialize. I love the sciences.

If that sounds good, contact me. We'll see what we can learn together.

Astronomy

I taught myself the northern constellations in my early teens, and still spend a fair amount of time stargazing. I've had a course in navigation that included celestial, and I have a sextant, but I don't practice. My appreciation of astronomy is mostly calendarical and navigational, and of course aesthetic. Asteroid 17022 bears my family name.
