Bio

I graduated from Wesleyan University in 2018 with a BA in Neuroscience & Behavior and a certificate in Creative Writing. While I was a student, I sang in an a cappella group, played Frisbee, worked in the library and admissions offices, and performed in various dance and theater shows. While I was a student, I sang in an a cappella group, played Frisbee, worked in the library and admissions offices, and performed in various dance and theater shows. I chose a liberal arts school for college because I love learning about all the different realms of academia (and art) and the ways in which they interact and fit together within our world. Going to Wesleyan shaped the way I think, and the way I teach. I love tutoring because it allows me the chance to transfer my own love of learning to others; and my varied experiences help me relate to each student in a different way, no matter their background or perspective.

At this point, I have tutored math, writing, chemistry, voice, and piano to students of all ages. I especially love working with students on their personal writing, as I have a background in college admissions and creative writing.

I have tutored math in the past in various settings, and currently tutor a 6th and 9th grader in the city. While in college, I worked with middle school and early high school students in a classroom setting (primarily basic arithmetic through algebra II) five days a week for a month during our winter break. These tutoring sessions varied between one-on-one and small group sessions. I was also a neuroscience major in college, with a creative writing minor, so I had to take college level math, science, and English courses, and often worked with classmates on a variety of difficult materials.

I spent the last year working as a paid writing fellow at Wesleyan University, during which time I edited college writing (both academic and creative) and helped students craft analytic ideas. In this role, I spent time with over 200 students, giving individual, informed writing advice to each student who came into my office. This kind of one-on-one work is extremely enjoyable for me as it allows me to get to know the student more personally, and unde

Writing

I completed the Creative Writing Certificate at Wesleyan University and earned a prestigious Writing Fellowship, which allowed me to spend a fifth year working at the University under the department head. During that time, I also read applications for the admissions office, which gave me specialized experience with college application essays. Since graduating, I have worked with students (elementary through college) on academic, creative, and personal writing. Aside from that, I am a writer myself and very much enjoy the creative/analytic process.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I've tutored algebra (and the subjects before and after) to various young students over the last several years. The numbers remain the same, but the way individuals understand them is different and unique to each of them. I have a deep love for puzzles, numbers, and problem solving, which comes through in my warm and interdisciplinary teaching style.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

Have worked with middle schoolers in a variety of locations on all levels of math. I specialize in making mathematical concepts palatable and concrete, rather than expecting students to memorize for a test and magically hold onto that knowledge. Prealgebra is especially important because it provides the basis for all math moving forwards.

Voice (Music)

I've studied voice for 10+ years, attending both the district and all-state Massachusetts choir conferences throughout high school. I music directed performances at Wesleyan University, and vocal directed/arranged music for my college a cappella group. Last summer, I taught 12 voice lessons a day at Long Lake Camp for the Performing Arts to students aged 10-16.
