About Janice

My teaching style is encouraging, caring, and flexible.
In my 21 years of teaching, I have learned how to take children from what they know to what they want to know. I feel that developing a positive relationship at the beginning is crucial to any child's success. Children need to feel valued and accepted.
I feel that children can achieve anything they believe they can achieve. My passion for teaching comes from working hard to achieve my own goals and helping a classmate graduate from high school. I look forward to working side by side to help other children realize their highest potentials and see their self-confidence and grades improve.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education for K-12, and I have been employing those skills for more than 2 decades in the field of education. I have worked both in the public school system and for child development services, and currently work in a preschool for children with autism and who lack social skills due to trauma.
Currently, I have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a child who due to changes in his home life, was not successfully coping with the other children's dysregulated behaviors in the group setting at school. We have been working one-on-one together since February and have already seen tremendous benefits. He has become more independent at regulating his own behavior and has been able to complete small group activities.
I appreciate the opportunity to tutor in order to make an even greater impact in the lives of even more children.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dyslexia

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and I began working with children with special needs almost 30 years ago.
I have learned skills for helping children see words on the page the way they should see words on the page. I have also learned strategies for children to independently check what letter they see, which increases their self esteem. Building confidence and positive self esteem encourages children to want to keep learning.
I truly care deeply for each one of my students and find strategies that successfully address their needs.

Special Needs

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and I began working with children with special needs almost 30 years ago.
In my time in the field of education, I have gained years of experience working with children with various needs including working with children on the Autism spectrum, children with Dyslexia, Learning Disabilities, ADD/ADHD, and other special needs.
I have a knack for understanding children that others may find difficult to understand or build connection with. I truly care deeply for each one of my students and find creative ways to successfully address their needs.
