About Will

My passion for teaching is fostered by my passion for learning. My experiences in the classroom setting and leading extracurricular activities have taught me valuable lessons about how to connect with and motivate students to do their best. Challenging students to realize their true potential and how to pursue achieving it is my foremost goal as a current and future educator. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern Maine in 2010 with a BA in English in 2010 and entered graduate school the following fall at the University of New England. At UNE, I completed the graduate Teacher Certification Program, graduating in May 2012 with a 3.8 GPA.

After obtaining my Maine State Teaching Certification in English/Language Arts, I began working in public schools, first as an Educational Technician and then as a 7th grade language arts teacher. My favorite part of teaching is making a personal connection to the students I work with and helping them attain the writing and reading skills necessary for academic success. Developing proficient reading and writing skills are paramount, not only to success in English and language arts but all academic subjects. I demand a lot from myself as an educator and, regardless of the situation, will look to adapt my teaching practices to the individual learning styles of the students I work with.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you improve as a writer, reader, and lover of learning.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
