Teaching is my gift, and I have found that connecting and engaging my students is the first step in their mastery of material, concepts and problem solving. I have a BA in Social Science, with a concentration in Elementary Education. I worked for 10 years as a substitute teacher, which exposed me to many teaching methods and allowed me to draw from the most successful examples to develop my own style. I am also a certified Behavioral Heath Professional, with years of experience working with children with special needs, or behavior challenges. The combined experiences give me a unique ability to draft lesson plans that are individually suited, whatever the challenges presented.
My goals, as a tutor, include equipping each child with the tools necessary to succeed in the classroom environment and instilling a love for learning that will help them overcome any future obstacles they may face. In addition, a strong understanding of grade level required curriculum is the basis on which all lessons are planned.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a Behavioral Health Professional, certified in the State of Maine. I have 10 years of experience working one-on-one with children with learning challenges, including ADD/ADHD, Asperger's, and Autism. I have many hours of experience as a substitute teacher in Special Education Classrooms.
