Bio

I am a 5-8 & 7-12 Highly Qualified Certified English teacher. I believe that every child has a voice, and if a child has to struggle to write, it is truly painful. It is important to help every child learn to communicate through their writing. Children also need to learn to read for meaning and to decide, when working with informational text, what is important to remember. I work as an Ed. Tech III in middle school Special Education, and know, first hand, what children need to learn...

Tech III in middle school Special Education, and know, first hand, what children need to learn in both of these areas. Because of my teaching background and Special Education experience, I know I can connect with students to meet Standards and to actually enjoy writing and reading..
I also know that great developmental leaps occur as students enter middle school. In middle school, students are expected to identify and interpret inference, and in some cases write pieces with clear theme and symbols. When working with children with these developmental challenges it is important to teach them how to visualize and look for hidden meaning. My background in English Literature (summa cum laude) has proved invaluable when working with students on these lessons.
I also have experience working with students with organizational and behavioral challenges and am familiar with the Lucy Calkin's protocol. I am also willing to consult with a student's teacher about assignments. I know I can help.
