Bio

I have been in the tutoring service now for three decades+, starting at the University of Maine at Orono teaching "Transcendental Functions/Precalculus" mathematics (1982-1985) then straight into the non-academic world. I started work at The Boeing Company as a Mathematician/Software Developer in the Photogrammetric and Satellite Imagery arenas, while tutoring nights and weekends. These arenas required rigorous and validated mathematics.

When tutoring it is important for the student to know the whys and not just the mechanics (hows) of mathematics. In doing so I like to point out the alternative solutions to mathematical problems via algorithms from higher forms of mathematics and computer development-- if there is interest. I differ from the other tutors as I am both a Software Engineer and a Mathematician. Some equations cannot be solved by symbols and require Numerical Methods on computers in software form to solve said problems. In Calculus alone we can see that Newton's Method, the Infinite Series, and Integration are perfect algorithmic candidates for computer code and algorithmic understanding. Coding reinforces and validates the student's mathematics through short and simple coding.

Combined with decades of teaching, tutoring, and real-world mathematical experience there are many ways to explore the mathematical subjects of your interest. What are the alternative solutions? Which is the fastest or best solution to use? What are the real-world applications of these equations? I help you answer and understand all these questions and more. Try my multi-viewed, why, approach to understanding mathematics and not just going through the mechanics of the solutions.

My approach to tutoring mathematics calls for examples and real-world applications, e.g. the intersection of two 3-d parabaloids as a missile-intersection scenario. Through examples, practice, and the freedom to ask questions upon questions my students leave each session with a stronger foundation then before the visit. Mathematics is a discipline that builds upon itself, and requires much time and discipline. I will emphasize the intricate nature of the subject, the study habits needed to succeed specifically in mathematics, and versatility of the solutions presented to you in our sessions together.

Subjects

Computer

C,

C

I have been programming in C since 1982 while mathematical modeling ecosystems affected by acid rain and other applications. From pointers to memory management and structured programming, they are all covered in our tutoring sessions. Though not a prerequisite to C++ and C#, it is highly recommended. Certification ------------------- • Microsoft Certified Developer (VB .NET) -- MCSD
Microsoft Windows,

Microsoft Windows

I am a Microsoft Certified expert in Windows and a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. I started from the days of DOS, up to today's Windows 10 Operating System; and from Windows NT server to Windows Server 2012 we can cover them all. What are the differences? What are the hardware requirements? Do I need a Professional version of Windows or a Home version? How does memory help? I'll answer these questions and more.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I have had years of experience dealing with many facets of Ordinary Differential Equations, including the solution of Linear Non-homogenous equations in several ways. Integrating factor, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, exact equations, separation of variables and more. My M.A. thesis is based on numerical solutions of Differential Equations due to acid rain (1985).
