I am currently studying at SUNY Old Westbury, with hopes of becoming a special education teacher. I have experience in a classroom, having worked at a Sunday school for the past 7 years. For the past 2 years I have had my own classroom, and assisted for the 5 years prior. I have worked primarily with elementary school students, but do work with students of all ages. I am a strong believer that it is important to teach a student basic skills that are relevant to the subject, as well as strong study skills that will improve study habits in all subjects. I strive not only to help a student do well on the upcoming test, but to use methods that will help a child retain information. Making the information relatable to students is key to create a complete understanding, so I often break down the subject to tangible concepts and use modern day examples.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked for a number of years as for a sunday school. After 5 years of assisting I was given my own classroom for the 2009-2010 school year and continue to teach a second grade classroom this year. I have worked with grades 2-6. While the subject matter is different from what I would be tutoring, having spent many years in a classroom I have learned various different methods of teaching for young students with different skills. I also have some experience with special education students, furthermore broadening the spectrum of techniques that I use in my classroom.
I have worked for over 7 years as a tutor/assistant/teacher at religious schools across New York and NEw Jersey. I have helped numerous students prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah, and have references if needed. I can help with prayer comprehension and Hebrew reading skills.
I have worked with individuals with developmental disabilities in 2 different capacities. First as a teachers aide in a special ed classroom, and second as a direct service provider in a group home servicing adults with disabilities. I am also working on a degree in teaching, and like to use many alternative methods to ensure that a student understands the material, since we all learn differently.
