About Deborah

I have recently retired, after teaching Latin and English in the same high school for 30 years, and I am dual certified by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, something that less than 1% of America's teachers have achieved. I am a published essayist as well as an experienced classroom teacher and one-on-one tutor.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Classics

I teach mythology and ancient history as part of my Latin course; I also teach world literature in the 11th grade English course, including ancient works.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills as part of most of the courses I teach -- primarily in foreign language but also as a separate "study skills" unit in 9th grade English.

One of the best decisions!

Having Mrs. Deborah as a tutor this summer has been one of the best decisions for us, especially my son. With her patience and guidance, he has a lot of confidence in Latin and is ready for school to start. Mrs. Deborah is patient, but firm and pushed him to want to do better. Her tips and advise will be put to good use. He is working on memorizing the vocabulary. We will definitely call if my son
