With over 35 years of teaching experience, I have had the pleasure of teaching in adult education programs and teaching on the high school level. I have two teaching fields--Business Education and English. I feel that these two fields are very much related because in teaching the skills related to business, I must also enforce grammar, punctuation and writing skills. Resume writing, public speaking, and cover letter preparation are business tools needed by all students and are closely tied to both of my teaching fields. As an adult education teacher, I trained welfare to work mothers, recovering substance abuse users, and ex-offenders. From 1996 until my retirement in 2011, I taught Business Education at Great Mills High School in St. Mary's County. I have also taught English in adult education programs and on the high school level. This also included teaching students with English as a second language. I presently hold a Maryland teaching certificate for grades 7-12.
As the mother of an ADHD child, I am sensitive to the needs of students with learning disabilities and have worked closely in a classroom setting with mainstream students, developing skills to prepare themselves for full and productive lives. I know the importance of young people learning the basics of the Microsoft Office suite--not just the "fun applications they are all so familiar with. With over 35 years of teaching experience, I have had the pleasure of teaching in adult education programs and teaching on the high school level. I have two teaching fields--Business Education and English. I feel that these two
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. My teaching certificate includes grades 7 to 12. My teaching experience includes 20 years of adult education in the business schools, as well as in government funded educational programs for adults. These programs included training for welfare to work mothers, recovering alcoholic/substance abuse users, and ex-offenders. I also taught 16 years at Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County in the Career and Technology Education Department. I taught courses in Keyboarding, Computer Applications, Business Law, Simulated Office, Business Administration, and Introduction to Business. While teaching in St. Mary’s County, I was also the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) sponsor. In this capacity, I helped to train students for business competitions.
My degree in secondary education includes a teaching field in English. I have experience teaching both ninth and tenth grade English. I am strong in the areas of grammar, punctuation, and writing skills. As a business teacher, I used these skills to prepare students for careers in the business world. In addition, I have experience interpreting and analyzing literary works.
As a Career and Technology Education teacher for St. Mary's County Public Schools, I taught many classes in Computer Applications. I also taught students how to use these applications in job search and career enhancement but also as vital tools to be used for continued education. Many of my students went on to pursue college degrees in business, but others were able to seek careers in the business world after graduation from high school.
I have teaching experience in both English and Business Education, which includes Grade 7 through 12. I have worked with adults to improve their reading comprehension and writing shills to prepare them for the business world. I have also taught both 9th and 10th grade English and have tutored middle school students in reading comprehension to prepare them for the demands of high school English classes.
My education degree includes a second teaching field in English. I have experience teaching 9th and 10th grade English. I also have experience teaching writing skills to adults and to high school students who were preparing to enter the business world. As the mother of an ADHD child, I worked closely with my own son in developing good reading and writing skills and a strong vocabulary that prepared him for higher education.
