Patient, supportive tutoring that boosts students' confidence in writing, literature, and creativity is what I'm all about!
I have over 7 years of tutoring and teaching experience. I have tutored students from 7-70 years old in the United States and as a Fulbright Scholar in Uganda and Kenya.
As an undergraduate student I operated a University Writing Center, helping students of all skill levels improve their personal and academic results. As a graduate student at Boston University--I continued to tutor high school and college students.
Through tutoring my students see quick improvements in their grades; but, more importantly, I strive to improve their confidence in their abilities to create, compose, and correct their writing. I also work hard to improve reading comprehension and analysis so that my students continue to improve in the long-term.
I believe tutoring sessions should be engaging and dynamic. A friendly and relaxed environment allows my students to communicate their goals, and concerns.
My favorite part of tutoring is seeing students reach their objectives--then their work becomes more creative, effective, and the fear of writing eases away.
I have flexible availability, so my schedule fits your schedule!
I have a BA in English/Literature and a MA in African-American Studies. Since 2008 I have worked as a university and independent tutor. I taught English and Creative Writing in East Africa for 2 years. I am also a performing poet in the Washington, DC area.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
