About Arvel

Hello Student and/or Parent,

If you need a tutor for pre-algebra, algebra, writing, grammar, GED, or accounting, I am accepting students.

I have a proven track record in tutoring and teaching. I have tutored four subjects while in college. I have also tutored Praxis candidates, and K-12 students. During my employment with Prince George's Community College, I successfully taught math and language arts (English) to GED candidates; I also taught them test taking skills along with life skills.

In addition, I have developed an innovative way to convert and compare Fractions, Percents, Decimals, and Ratios as well as a way to understand long division using my D-M-S-BD technique. These and my other strategies help improve students test scores and their confidence. My lessons are engaging and descriptive. In addition, I have the natural gift to lead and motivate others toward successfully completing their educational goals.

My Tutoring experience includes the ability to solve problems by first detecting and then resolving the problem as well as the ability to prioritize challenging topics and map out an plan of action. I utilize critical listening skills and patience with learners (adolescents and adults) as they wrestle with difficult subjects.

In summary, I have the training and experience to tutor multiple exams and subject areas. I have also developed tutoring strategies. Plus, I have the ability to detect and resolve students' challenges with difficult subjects.

I look forward to talking with and working with you.

Thanks,
Arvel

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Very easy going - Updated

My son met with Arvel for the first time this weekend. He was very easy to talk to and patient. He was able to relate math to every day life occurrences and use that to break the ice. My son felt confident that meeting with Arvel will help him in the future. It is helpful to me as a parent, that Arvel is flexible with his schedule and able to meet at a variety of places. We are looking forward to
