I started tutoring Algebra over twenty years ago while I was still in high school. My favorite thing about being a tutor instead of in a traditional classroom is that I am not limited to only teaching one subject at one level. It makes life easier for my students and their parents that I can help their kid with both English homework and math. You can have one tutor who covers everything instead of having to find someone different for each subject. With many of my students, I may not know what subject I'll be teaching until we start the lesson and I ask what homework they have that day.

I have worked with a wide range of ability levels, from cognitively impaired special ed students to valedictorians and everything in between. I've had students from preschool through grad school. When I'm not teaching, I'm doing research in museums to learn useful information that I can use to help my students better understand what they are learning in class. I am also a freelance editor and was called "one of the best proofreaders I have ever met" by Amazon number one best selling author AJ Skelly.

Working with students one on one allows me to find where they are struggling or making mistakes and explain how to correct them in a way a teacher with a full classroom does not have time to do. Not every method works for every kid, so I adapt to how each one learns. They frequently comment that I explain things in a much easier way to understand than their teacher. It can be a challenging job at times, but all the students who have told me that they never would have graduated without my help make it more than worth it. I look forward to helping your student develop a love of learning, reducing the stress of classes where they struggle, and watching their faces light up when they share their newfound academic successes!

Great Session

This was my high school aged daughter’s first session with Sarah and not only did she learn some good studying techniques, but she really enjoyed herself as well!

Extremely knowledgeable and very patient.

Sara thought Social Studies to my 5th grade son Richard. We are looking forward to working with Sarah in various subjects. Richard was so grateful that he understood how she broke down the article in a way he could understand and explain to others.

Well Prepared, Knowledgable, Creative & Patient!

My son's first session was great (creative, well organized and challenging)! Sarah was so well prepared I encouraged her to increase the session an additional half an hour.

Extremely Patient and Fun

Sarah has done an excellent job with my daughter. She is patient and makes the learning environment fun. We are transitioning from a Montessori school and math was a challenge. Sarah got us on the right track.

Amazing

I used Sarah to help me in two math classes!! she is so patient and really knows the material. She is very clear while exposing and for a person who is so bad at math she is outstanding!! HIGHLY RECCOMEND HER

Great tutoring sessions

Sarah helped both my senior with statistics and my 7th grader with his pre-algebra. Looking forward to her continued support throughout the remainder of the school year!

Great Tutor

Sarah - assisted my son with his algebra, she gave him additional insight and alternative methods for completing his assigned work set. Very professional and knowledgeable. We are considering using her services for additional topics.

Great start

Very happy with the approach to an initial assessment. Our son left the session feeling engaged and encouraged with a good understanding of next steps.

Flexible tutor who uses a variety of teaching tools

Sarah has been tutoring my 12 year old son in math for about 6 months, and I've been very happy with the results. The first quarter she worked with him, his grade increased from an F to a C. For her lessons, she breaks up the activities they do to minimize his frustration with particularly challenging concepts. My son has a bit of a sour attitude about math, but that hasn't seemed to phase Sarah. Overall, she is a reliable, mature and competent tutor. Highly recommended.

Awesome Tutor

I would highly recommend Sarah as a tutor for anyone. She is extremely intelligent with the ability to transfer her knowledge in an easy to understand way. My son enjoyed working with Sarah, and he said that he learned techniques in math from her that he didn't understand before. He went to her with help to increase his ACT score. He doesn't take the test until next month, so I will report back with what happens, but I do expect an increase. Sarah did a great job.
