I'm Matt! I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and a wealth of knowledge that I am enthusiastic to share with those who need assistance. As a senior in high school, I was a peer facilitator, a position which involved helping other students in the resource room with coursework that was challenging to them. I also have experience teaching students using behavioral therapy techniques, as I am also currently employed as a Registered Behavior Technician. This means that I teach children of all ages who have Autism or other developmental disabilities both behavioral and educational skills; these include social, communication, and language skills, as well as areas such as math and reading. In addition, I have 4 younger siblings who all went through the same high school as I did, and would help them with content related to areas of anatomy, statistics, chemistry, biology and psychology.

One of the most important aspects I believe in order to be successful at educating students is building a good foundation with them. In order to have a student engaged in learning, especially in subject content that might not appeal to them, I believe it is important for the educator to make the material not only enjoyable, but relatable to real life whenever possible. I also believe an educator should be kind, compassionate, and enthusiastic about the material they are teaching. The way I conduct my teaching at my current position consists of allowing the student to have a little time prior to learning to engage in an activity that they prefer, followed by introducing and learning the material. Afterwards, we review the material and the student has the opportunity to ask for any questions if they need clarification. Then, I like to retest the student at the end of that session to make sure that what we have learned becomes rehearsed and embedded into the student's memory. Following sessions then include a review of what was previously learned so the information is not forgotten. I plan to bring these aspects into my tutoring approach, and will do what is in my power to ensure you as the student will receive the highest possible quality education through tutoring.

As a peer facilitator in high school, one of the subjects I helped students with was statistics. This normally occurred in a 1 on 1 setting where the student was given the full attention of myself. Statistics make sense to me because a lot of it can be used for real life application, and this is the method of teaching I would use when teaching statistics. I have a passion for numbers, and AP statistics was one of my favorite classes while I was in high school.

Science has always been my true passion, as I even went on to receive my undergraduate degree in psychology. I took one anatomy course in high school and two anatomy lectures + labs in college, receiving A's in each class. I spent years learning the in's and out's of each aspect of psychology, and want to share the knowledge that I hold with others. These were also two of the other subjects that I have helped students with as a peer facilitator and my younger siblings with as a brother.

I currently work with individuals on the Autism Spectrum teaching them both educational and behavioral skills as an RBT. My client's respond well to the type of interventions and techniques I provide during our sessions. Furthermore, as a child I myself had ADHD, and had to learn how to go through the educational system with this deficit. Now as an adult who has experienced what it is like to not be able to concentrate no matter how hard I tried, I want to share my own strategies with others who may be going through a similar scenario.

I am a firm believer in every student deserving the opportunity to be successful, and will make it my goal for each tutoring session. I am always open to feedback and constructive criticism from either the student or parent as there is always room for growth in this field. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have, as I am normally quick to respond to any inquiries, or to schedule a lesson!

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Psychology and am currently working as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). In my field of experience, I have worked with clients on the Autism Spectrum, teaching them different behavioral skills such as language, communication, and social skills. I would like to take the experience I have, combined with the wealth of knowledge I have to provide, and use that to further educate students who are on the Autism Spectrum in school-related subjects.
