What are your English language goals? Are you a student needing one-time help writing an essay? Are you the parent of a child who needs help catching up or getting ahead in language arts classes? Are you a non-native speaker looking to improve fluency, review grammar, minimize mistakes and develop confidence in your English speaking, reading and writing? Perhaps you seek a tutor for a couple of sessions only. Or maybe you're looking for a longer commitment. Perhaps you're looking for one-on-one tutoring, or perhaps you'd like a tutor to assist in small group learning. Whatever your needs, I'm happy and willing to do my best to accommodate them, and help you reach your dream goals!
During our first meeting, we will talk about what your priorities are as a student. If you're an ESL student, these priorities could include accent, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, or writing skills. If you're a native speaker, these priorities are usually centered around schoolwork, but if there are others, please let me know and I will accommodate them. I'll present some ideas and techniques to you, and together, we'll figure out what will work best for your learning style. I understand that each student works differently, so no two students will have the same lesson plan!
At fifteen, I moved to Germany for an exchange year. I had no knowledge of the language whatsoever, and had to quickly pick it up, as German was spoken both in the home and in my high school. I understand how hard it can be to learn a new language, and to acclimate yourself to a new culture. For this reason, I've been on both sides of the fence - learning German and having a German tutor, and teaching English as a tutor. Because of this experience, and because I'm bilingual, I'm able to better understand how to help ESL students. NOTE: I am now accepting ESL students for a new weekly conversation club! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a child, I struggled with hyperactive tendencies. As a tutor, I have worked with students who have various learning disabilities, from ADHD to autism and other disabilities. I have experience working with both elementary-school and high-school students who struggle with ADHD, particularly with math and essay-writing.
