I am a timely, diligent, responsible, respected and accomplished Special Education Para Educator, Special Education Academic Life Skills summer school teacher, previous Autism Waiver Therapist, and sales representative/receptionist. My 14 years of experience in Special Education has included co-teaching in self-contained, inclusion classrooms (K-5) and in their homes (PRE-K-18 years old). This vast experience has led to a skilled blending of new strategies, accommodations, modifications and technologies into the standard special education curriculum, with the use of assistive technology, computer programs (Boardmaker, Pixie, Power Point, Kidspiriation) and the Internet.
I went to Carroll Community College right out of high school and earned a degree in Arts and Sciences before heading to Towson University. While there I earned my B.S. in Special Education and Psychology. I took a break at this time to discover my true passion in teaching but I headed to grad school with the urge to understand behavioral antecedents and consequences as well as my research favorite parapsychology. I continue to work with children with special needs but my quest for knowledge in the region of Psychology has not waned (its my favorite free read). Please feel free to contact me via email at a time of your convenience to discuss my background as well as the requirements for the role.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

The span of my employment with Howard County Public Schools has included four years in the inclusion setting (K-5) grades. I collaborated with the special and general educators regarding the curriculum to provide accommodations and modifications so that they could participate to the best of their ability. These strategies included but not limited to; picture vocabulary, picture worksheets and repeated read alouds.
As an employee of the Howard County Public School System I have worked with children with special needs for the last eleven years. The population in my classroom has varied in disabilities including; mental retardation, other health impaired, learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury and Autism. This population has given me the opportunity to provide modifications/accommodations for their functional academic, behavioral, social and communication life skills.
