I know chemistry AND I have taught the subject for years. I know how to make chemistry clear and accessible to you!
My training is in Organic Chemistry but I also completed the equivalent of a math major in college. By day, I manage a chemical database for a federal agency. Before that, I was a full-time college-level chemistry prof for 20 years and was on the committee that created editions of one of the American Chemical Society's standardized examinations.
I also taught 8th grade students via Summer Science Camps and college astronomy for ten years. I live in Carroll County and work in Silver Spring. I am willing to meet students near either location.
We homeschooled our children through high school and my youngest is a college science major so I've done a lot of home teaching.
I have always enjoyed working with young people who are curious about the sciences. I hope that we can share a passion for science together. I am here to help you! I know chemistry AND I have taught the subject for years. I know how to make chemistry clear and accessible to you!

Mr. Frank helped me SO much with my AP Chemistry class! In classes where I struggle I like to have someone outside of class to repeat lessons and concepts. He was very, very knowledgeable of the class and knew what to focus on. He helped me a lot! I also felt very prepared for the AP Chem test thanks to him! I would totally recommend him to anyone!
My daughter absolutely loved her first session. She left her meeting feeling that Organic Chemistry might not be impossible to learn. Frank S. was patient, pleasant and used an approach to chemistry that made sense to my daughter for the first time!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught astronomy for ten years at the college level.
I taught chemistry for twenty years at the college level.
I have a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Dartmouth 1987. I spent 20 years as a college professor most of which included teaching organic chemistry as my primary assignment.
