I'm Quante. You're welcome to call me Mr. Q! I graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County, as a Meyerhoff Scholar with a Bachelors of Biological Sciences degree, however, I love math and music. I worked diligently through grade school, earning a full academic award to college; it was geared towards math, science and engineering. My parents were very instrumental--Mom pushing me in every aspect of school and sports while Dad's requirement was "do your research" and to "seek the absolute truth" about all I could. Yet, it was my grandmother who challenged my brain with word search games, crossword puzzles, Pictionary, Scrabble and so on. Grandma taught grade school science and language arts--While she would complete daily lesson plans--and read 1000-page novels within days--I would read through dictionaries and encyclopedias. With her passion for educating and her hands-on teaching style, it was Grandma who first inspired me to teach.

My first tutoring experience was during 6th grade, tutoring 3rd-graders in math and reading. That 3rd grade teacher became one of numerous personal coaches whom I admire and imitate to this day. He always sought to engage his pupils with full force and empower them from day 1. On hiatus from graduate school, I assisted in teaching high school math, music and Spanish. In the classroom, I used a peer-to-peer approach in conjunction with one-on-one teaching, skills acquired from the incredibly dedicated teachers along the way. Thanks to those guides, I grew more and more able to help fellow high school, college and graduate school classmates with their studies. I also got help for myself from tutors when needed.

My focus as a tutor is in math, and music theory. Even more so, bringing out a student's fighting spirit--the will to dig in to achieve their academic goals and grow better day by day--drives me. I aim to tie a student's interests to the learning objectives--finding resourceful websites, involving family in building skills or other methods. I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible, so I welcome any and all helpful resources and suggestions that students, family members and instructors provide. I am easy to reach and will always do my best to respond promptly. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions and to schedule a lesson!

To your best,

"Mr. Q"

For years I've tutored word problem solving, fractions and ratios, shape concepts, measurements and conversions, and pre-algebra in person and can do so online. School teachers and administrators refer 3rd to 5th grade math students to me for help. I spent two years assisting a 3rd and 4th grade math teacher in the classroom on a weekly basis.
