Cabrini College (Education)
Towson University (Master's)
Hello, my name is Katie and I am a first grade teacher. I have just completed my second year teaching. My first year I taught in an autism classroom with students in grades 2nd-4th and my second year in first grade. I have had a really fun and exciting year learning all about first grade.
I am currently in the process of getting my Masters degree in Early Childhood Education. I will be graduating with my Masters in the Spring of 2016 from Towson University. I went to Cabrini College to obtain my Undergraduate degree in Special and Elementary Education. At Cabrini, I played lacrosse and field hockey.
I would love the opportunity to work with your child. My philosophy is to make learning fun and to present your child with the material in a hands-on way that makes sense to them. As we all know, each child has their own way of learning. The key is to find what motivates each child individually!
I have completed reading courses in graduate school. So, I am up to date on the latest theories and ways to help motivate and teach children how to read in a way that works for them. I am also a first grade teacher and am very familiar with the reading curriculum and the resources and strategies to teach reading in an effective way.
What makes an outstanding tutor is one who understands that each child learns differently and at their own pace. It is important to look at each child's strengths and observe the way they learn in order to be an effective tutor. I think it is the tutors job to make sure that each lesson is engaging to that student. If it is not, the student is going to have a very difficult time grasping the material presented to him/her.
I have taught phonics using the first grade curriculum in AACPS. I have materials and am up to date on the various strategies in teaching phonics.
Thank you for taking the time to look through my profile. I look forward to hearing from you. Hello, my name is Katie and I am a first grade teacher. I have just completed my second year teaching. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
