Through years of studying myself and helping others to learn, I have found that the ultimate test of understanding a subject is teaching it. The best way to teach a concept is to know it so thoroughly in and out that any of the myriad misunderstandings a student might have can be thwarted with a change in approach. A particular nuance of a subject that presents a problem for the student can be something the teacher had taken for granted and never closely examined their self. Thus, teaching...
Thus, teaching gives the important opportunity to view a concept with the fresh perspective of the student, allowing both student and teacher to learn and grow. It is with this philosophy that I endeavor to help students achieve success with individually tailored lessons and, with the aid of an open mind, grow my own understanding.
With a degree in experimental physics, I am best able to help students wanting tutoring in physics or a variety of math subjects including calculus, trigonometry, geometry, and algebra up to high school and early college level. I can also help with other physical sciences (eg. chemistry, geology) up to the middle school level. I am familiar with the new Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (Common Core) and can help prepare students for the PARCC assessments, SAT, ACT, and AP exams.
Taking part in weekly tutoring sessions in college to help underclassmen has shown me that the main benefit of tutoring is the one-on-one relationship between student and tutor. This provides an excellent means to tackle the student's particular questions and concerns. As such, I prepare individual lesson plans for each student. Accordingly, a first meeting with a student will be a consultation to determine what areas they want to work on and how best they learn. Lessons following that will be designed for the student.
I am happy to meet with students wherever they feel most comfortable and productive, but I do request that the venue be in public. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I look for

Knowledgeable and patient tutor
Zak has worked with our son over the past two and a half months 3 days a week for an hour each day and because of this help our son has gone from failing scores up to a B in Academic Algebra and C in Physics! We are very appreciative toward Zak.Cheri, 34 lessons with Zak
Knowledgeable, patient, excellent communicator.
Zak tutors my freshman in high school who is taking algebra 2 and geometry. Zak has expert knowledge of the subject material. He explains the material clearly, assisting with homework and clarifying where errors are made. He is phenomenal and we will continue to use him. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ZAK TO ANYONE!RUTH, 1 lesson with Zak
Very knowledgeable and patient excellent tutor.
In multiple areas of physics as in kinematic a and more to come as I continue my studies. He takes his time working with you to understanding the material.Steve, 5 lessons with Zak
As easy as it would be for him to just give me the answers to my problems he makes sure I do them myself. I have learned so much in the last month on this subject because of his help. I would also like to add that when I tried to do this subject without help I was getting C’s on most of my assignments. I am now getting A’s on my quizzes and I don’t see any reason why I will not be able to do the same on my exam.John, 59 lessons with Zak
