Hi, I'm Aaron. I've just begun my second year at the University of Maryland, College Park, where I am a math major. Hi, I'm Aaron. I've just begun my second year at the University of Maryland, College Park, where I am a math major. I attended Montgomery Blair High School, where I was fortunate to be able to take many advanced math and physics courses not normally offered in high school through the math/science magnet program there. I was always good at math, but Blair was where my interest was truly sparked. The fantastic teachers I had there inspired me to pursue my own interests in mathematics outside of what was being covered in my courses; they planted a seed, which has blossomed into my boundless love for math. I plan on someday pursuing a masters degree and Ph.D. in pure mathematics. My dream is to then become a professor at a university where I can teach and conduct research in pure math.

Although I do not have any prior experience tutoring outside of Wyzant, it's not accurate to say I have no experience with teaching and helping peers of mine with math. As an upperclassman in high school, I spent lunch every day in the magnet math or physics help rooms, where I was available to any students that were seeking help. I also helped my younger brother with his studies in math quite a bit; I taught him Algebra 2 the summer before he started high school and helped him regularly with pre-calculus and trigonometry throughout my junior year. As a freshman at UMD, I helped the other kids on my floor in my dorm on a nightly basis with their math courses, while also student-teaching a one credit seminar course on topics in Number Theory during my second semester (I shared all of the teaching responsibilities with another undergraduate student; we are teaching the course again this semester). The reason I never bothered to charge people for helping them is because I take genuine pleasure out of helping people achieve success and deep understanding; that was all the gratification I needed. I feel truly delighted spreading knowledge and understanding about the subject I love so dearly.

During my time in high school, I took Discrete Math, Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Logic Math, Complex Analysis, Senior Seminar in Statistical Research (Sports Statistics), AP Physics C, and Quantum Physics (all of which I aced). I earned scores of 5 (out of 5) on the following AP exams: BC Calculus (with an AB subscore of 5), Statistics, Physics C: Mechanics, and Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism. I earned a score of 800 (out of 800) on the SAT math section, as well as on the SAT Math II and Physics subject tests.

Because of my background in high school, at UMD I was able to start by taking 400-level courses (after taking Calculus III via credit by exam to gain placement), which are typically reserved for upperclassmen. So far at UMD I have taken Advanced Calculus I & II, Introduction to Abstract Algebra, Introduction to Number Theory, Partial Differential Equations, Introduction to Dynamics and Chaos, Introduction to Topology, Introduction to Probability Theory, Real Analysis I (a graduate level course), and three 1-credit courses (Selected Topics in Number Theory, Introduction to Matlab, and Putnam Express), with an overall GPA of 3.95 in math courses. This semester I am taking Real Analysis II (a graduate level course), Field Theory, an advanced Linear Algebra course, and a course on Homotopy Type Theory. In the Fall of 2018, I also participated in the Directed Reading Program in the math department at UMD, where I read about Algebraic Topology and gave a talk about the content of my readings.

Past students have consistently praised my ability to break down difficult problems into manageable pieces. For students who are struggling to grasp concepts, I help by making problems easy to understand and concrete before approaching complex, abstract ideas. I am patient and understanding and truly want to see students succeed. Even more than I love math, I love problem solving; at the end of the day, finding success in math or physics is about understanding how to approach the problems and take a positive mindset. My approach to teaching has instilled greater confidence in my students regarding their ability to approach and solve difficult problems; with this as the goal, I'm confident I can help any student succeed. Feel free to contact me for more information or to set up a tutoring session.

Calculus,

Calculus

I have taken AP Calculus BC, Multivariable Calculus, Complex Analysis, and Advanced Calculus I & II throughout my time in high school and college thus far. I aced all of those courses, and earned a score of 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam (with an AB subscore of 5) as a sophomore in high school. I am currently enrolled in Real Analysis, which is a graduate level course continuing the Calculus sequence offered at UMD. Calculus is the subject I feel most comfortable tutoring, and I have extensive experience doing so.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

In high school I aced an Ordinary Differential Equations class, which allowed me to place out of the ODEs class at UMD. Over this past summer I took a Partial Differential Equations course, which I aced.
Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

I aced a discrete math course in high school, as well as two separate number theory classes at UMD with heavy overlaps in material with discrete mathematics. I also taught a 1-credit course at UMD with deep ties to discrete mathematics, nested in a study of the integers, partitions, and combinatorics. Concepts from discrete mathematics have also arisen throughout many of the other advanced math courses I have taken. I have some experience tutoring discrete mathematics outside of Wyzant.
Logic,

Logic

I aced a course in mathematical logic during time in high school, allowing me to place out of the mathematical logic/proofs class at UMD. There has also been extensive use of mathematical logic in every advanced math course I have taken at UMD and in high school. I also have experience tutoring mathematical logic and proofs outside of Wyzant.

Excellent

Aaron split time working with our two sons on pre-algebra and geometry. Aaron easily related with each, focusing them first on concepts and then on specific problems. We also appreciated Aaron’s flexibility to help out on very short notice.

Calculus tutor

Aaron is currently tutoring my son in AP Calculus. He has also tutored my other son in college calculus. He explains and gives examples that are very easy to understand. We can always count on him for last minute test prep and homework help. I'm so grateful we found him. He is highly recommended on all math and Physics tutoring. Mrs. Rosalind C.

Great tutor! Knows to explain and make you understand the problem

I had a great lesson with Aaron! He knows the material and knows how to help you to understand it. We went over discrete mathematics, problem-solving and how to approach a problem.

knowledgeable and patient

Aaron instantly connected with Aidan with his friendly and approachable demeanor. I was working on my laptop one room away and could hear all of Aidan's enthusiastic "yeah, that makes sense!" or "Ooooh, that's what my teacher meant!" We would recommend Aaron in a heartbeat
