About Jeff

I am a broadly trained biologist and natural resource economist, and I am an experienced researcher working on applying ecological and economic methods to nature conservation. In my research I have applied a wide array of statistical methods to biological and economic data to come up with recommendations on how to manage areas and populations of conservation importance. This work has been published in leading scientific journals.

I have always enjoyed teaching. Since I was a graduate student, I sought opportunities to develop and teach courses. As an instructor for a graduate-level course in marine conservation in Israel, I developed field exercises for teaching basic principles of ecology and statistics. As a PhD student and postdoctoral fellow I mentored graduate-level theses. I have also taught Marine Conservation courses at various universities, and an Environmental Economics graduate-level course at American University. In my teaching I emphasize hands-on learning through experience with real data and current scientific literature.

As a teacher, tutor, and mentor I have always benefited from continuous and open feedback to achieve the most comfortable and productive learning experience for my students. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals in economics, ecology, and statistics!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ecology

I have a Masters degree in Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology. During my Masters studies I taught Ecology for graduate students studying Environmental Economics. My PhD work was on Ecological Economics, and my PhD and postdoctoral research covered questions related to the ecology of endangered marine populations. For my PhD work I received the university's Doctoral Fellowship of Excellence.

Economics

I have a Masters degree in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics and a PhD in Ecological Economics. My PhD and postdoctoral research covered questions related to the economic value of marine systems.

Statistics

I have a PhD in Ecological Economics, and I have published my research in leading scientific journals. I work on research related to the environment, and I routinely apply diverse statistical methods to ecological and economic data. These statistical analyses form the basis of the recommendations that I provide to decision makers working on nature conservation.

Jeff did an outstanding job prepping me for my six sigma exam. He was knowledgeable and took the time to prepare in advance of our first lesson. He provide relateable scenarios and helped me to better understand statistical measurements As it pertains to six sigma. Jeff not only walked me through the 'problem' but also challenged me to increase my understanding and knowledge. He's enthusiastic and
