I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA. I earned my bachelor's degree in elementary education at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. After I graduated college, I began working as an assistant in several different schools around the Pittsburgh area. I worked with elementary students who struggled with behavior and academic issues.
I moved to Fayetteville, NC in 2011. There, I taught 3rd grade for four years and 4th grade for one year. May of 2016 I earned my M.Ed. from Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC certifying me as a K-12 reading specialist.
August of 2016 I moved to Silver Spring, MD where I am currently working as a math intervention teacher for grades 3, 4, and 5. I have the ability to motivate students to want to learn and make meaning out of their learning. I feel it is crucial to help all students make a connection with their learning and apply what they have learned to the real world. I love to make learning fun and enjoyable. My ability to make connections with each student and motivate them to learn is what sets me apart from other tutors. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have 5 years of teaching experience in North Carolina in grades 3 and 4. Of those years, I have taught common core subjects. I also have a Master's Degree in education certifying me as a reading specialist.
