About Shana

Are you frustrated by poor test performance?

Hi, my name is Shana. I am a test prep and anxiety relief specialist with a passion for teaching students to test at their best. Over the past fifteen years, I have designed an individualized, diagnostic approach to test prep tutoring that ensures you optimize your brain and study habits, and crush your test goals!

What is Diagnostic Tutoring?

1. We start with an initial comprehensive assessment to learn how your brain works when tackling complex test problems. We find out about your testing goals and the root cause of your test taking challenges, and design an individualized curriculum to ensure you meet your target on test day. For anxious and unfocused students that are frustrated by poor test results, this approach motivates students to think more positively and strategically about testing success.

2. Through the course of your sessions, you will learn:
--testing strategies that are guaranteed to help you crack test formulas of official test questions
--how to identify and eliminate wrong answer types quickly by analyzing language patterns
--how to take notes and find context clues to make reading more efficient and effective
--patience, and how to slow down and be ACCURATE before you focus on speed

All my students succeed and transform their test taking approach. Many of my students have become teachers and tutors and are teaching these skills to their own students. Good study and test taking skills are the gift that keep on giving. :)

Ready to make big changes? Contact me to schedule a free phone consult and let's discuss how I can help you reach test goal!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I am a graduate of Duke University and University of Maryland Carey School of Law. I have a BA in Public Policy and English, 7-12 English Teaching Certification, and a JD. I have been tutoring the Reading Comprehension section of most standardized tests, and editing personal statements and essays, for over twelve years.

LSAT

I am a test prep and anxiety relief specialist with over twelve years of experience tutoring the LSAT. I teach students to master efficient analytical thinking and problem solving skills, which has lasting results not only on test day, but as a future law student and lawyer as well. When I am not tutoring, I practice education law, and lecture at universities on the basic elements of how to write a brief and how to read a case.

Praxis

I have 16 years experience tutoring PRAXIS, LSAT, and SAT reading, writing and math. I am a Duke English and Public Policy major, certified award-winning HS English teacher, and successful trial and appellate education law attorney.

Special Needs

I am a certified High School English teacher in North Carolina and Georgia. I have taken courses on teaching exceptional children, and served as the Executive Functioning Coach for a private school in Maryland. I have taught students with ADD, ADHD, autism specturm disorder, executive functioning issues, dyslexia, and dyscalcula for over 12 years. I have defended school systems against state and federal disability discrimination claims.

I currently own and operate a blog on test taking strategy and overcoming the psychological, physical, and cognitive effects of test taking anxiety.

Won't find anyone as knowledgeble, engaging, or as Involved! — For what it's worth: I am a student (graduating in 10 days)When I discovered Shana and had my first lesson, within ten minutes I had realized I had won the lottery of tutors. I've been "prepping" for the LSAT now for over a year and after two dissatisfying scores decided to take a friend's advice and reached out to Shana. Besides having prior experience with these tests, she is able t ...
