About Shana

I am an education attorney and certified English teacher with 18 years of test prep tutoring experience. After graduating from Duke University, I began my career as an award-winning high school American Literature teacher in Augusta, Georgia before attending law school to study juvenile and trial advocacy at University of Maryland Carey School of Law. I am a certified Best Interest Attorney for children and have five years of experience as an education attorney for a large public school system. I have successfully represented public school professionals in trial and appellate matters, and provided system-wide trainings on discrimination and harassment, abuse reporting, and general liability issues.

I lecture at Georgetown University's Continuing Education Program, and am a regular guest on the Lynn Johnson Motivational Radio Show, where I serve as the show’s Legal Education Correspondent.

My unique background in education and law helped me develop an advanced, strategic approach to test preparation and college and career readiness, which I have used for the past 15 years to help over 500 students overcome content and stress-based challenges in order to gain acceptance into college, law school and grad school.

If you are a repeat test taker, struggle with test anxiety, or have learning challenges or difficulties preventing you from testing at your maximum potential, I want to work with you!

If you're ready to transform your study process and test at your best, contact me for a free consult today! :)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I am a graduate of Duke University and University of Maryland Carey School of Law. I have a BA in Public Policy and English, 7-12 English Teaching Certification, and a JD. I have been tutoring the Reading Comprehension section of most standardized tests, and editing personal statements and essays, for over twelve years.

LSAT

I am a test prep and anxiety relief specialist with over twelve years of experience tutoring the LSAT. I teach students to master efficient analytical thinking and problem solving skills, which has lasting results not only on test day, but as a future law student and lawyer as well. When I am not tutoring, I practice education law, and lecture at universities on the basic elements of how to write a brief and how to read a case.

Praxis

I have 16 years experience tutoring PRAXIS, LSAT, and SAT reading, writing and math. I am a Duke English and Public Policy major, certified award-winning HS English teacher, and successful trial and appellate education law attorney.

Special Needs

I am a certified High School English teacher in North Carolina and Georgia. I have taken courses on teaching exceptional children, and served as the Executive Functioning Coach for a private school in Maryland. I have taught students with ADD, ADHD, autism specturm disorder, executive functioning issues, dyslexia, and dyscalcula for over 12 years. I have defended school systems against state and federal disability discrimination claims.

I currently own and operate a blog on test taking strategy and overcoming the psychological, physical, and cognitive effects of test taking anxiety.

For what it's worth: I am a student (graduating in 10 days)When I discovered Shana and had my first lesson, within ten minutes I had realized I had won the lottery of tutors. I've been "prepping" for the LSAT now for over a year and after two dissatisfying scores decided to take a friend's advice and reached out to Shana. Besides having prior experience with these tests, she is able t
