About Jenelle

Greetings Families and Students:

I'm so pleased you stopped by to check out my profile. The school year is officially in full swing. Tutoring is a fun, personal way for students to master academic skills that may be challenging for them or be pushed to the next level with more rigorous academic material.

I have experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and different ability levels including general education, English as a second language, Talented and Gifted, Special Education -- ADD/ADHD and Autism. I am a certified teacher working in Prince George's County Public Schools. Currently, I teach kindergarten in Hyattsville. I have 8 years of experience in early childhood education teaching kindergarten and first grade. I believe in building student's confidence and then giving them skills and strategies to conquer challenging academic concepts.

I work with elementary reading students to provide a comprehensive understanding of phonics, sight words to improve reading comprehension and support students in reading basic level books while teaching strategies to figure out challenging words. I also support elementary math students in understanding basic skills/concepts such as counting, basic addition/ subtraction and place value. I use manipulatives and hands-on differentiated activities to make learning engaging and fun.

I believe all students learn at different rates but have the ability to achieve success if given the time to do so. My goal is to work with your family and help your child reach their maximum academic potential!

I look forward to hearing from you soon,
Jenelle

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I am currently working with Common Core in my kindergarten classroom. I use the standards to plan lessons and develop content to teach my students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified elementary school teacher. I currently teach kindergarten in Maryland public schools. I have 8 years of experience teaching kindergarten and first grade in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Handwriting

I currently teach handwriting in my classroom at school. My kindergarten students and I focus on writing letters on three lines and how they are formed with curved lines, straight lines, or a combination of both. I also focus on building students fine motor skills by practicing skills such as cutting and pasting in addition to playing with play doh.

Phonics

I have been teaching kindergarten and first grade for nine years. It is important for students to have a solid foundation in literacy to build lifelong readers. My specialty is early childhood education and helping students become fluent in early literacy skills.

Reading

I have been teaching reading for 8 years to kindergarten and first grade students. My specialty is phonics and ensuring students have a good foundation to learn to read.

Math and Writing tutoring for a first grader

My 1st grade son completed his first tutoring lesson with Ms. Jenelle. When we arrived at the session she was prepared and began his lesson after a brief conversation with me. She was both patient and creative in the way she approached the session with my son. We are looking forward to more sessions with her.
