My name is Mario and I work for the Federal government, but I would like to have the opportunity to give back through tutoring. I have tutored several individuals over the years in subjects ranging from English and ESL, to History and Social Studies, to Spanish and Italian, among others. I have also assisted students in writing papers and preparing to study for tests/exams, the SATs and Maryland Bar Exam. I have a law degree and have mastery of Italian and Spanish. Bar review is a stressful period. Even when one studies for at least a bit every day and makes every effort to follow the study schedule suggested by the major bar review courses, the sheer amount of material is overwhelming. Having studied for the bar before, Mario helped me keep my sanity throughout the study process. Mario suggested a number of very helpful study tips and helped me polish my essay writing skills. More importantly, Mario is the definition of flexibility and was willing to meet me at mutually convenient times as much and as often as needed during the studying process. I highly recommend him as an additional source of support through what is otherwise a tolling process.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a JD from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, which I received in May 2001. I took and passed the Bar Exam in Maryland in February 2002 and have tutored approximately 8 individuals since then, first on the Maryland state-specific essay portion and more recently on the MBE, MPT, and MEE.
I was a Political Science major at The Catholic University of America (at the time, the major was called "Politics"). I earned a 3.91 GPA and election of Phi Beta Kappa. I also earned High Honors on my Undergraduate Politics Comprehensive Exam, and an A on my Undergraduate Thesis.
I have had a 13-year professional career as both a lawyer and policymaker for the Federal Government following my graduation from law school. I worked as a law clerk at the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, a law clerk at the Office of Bar Counsel, an attorney at the District of Columbia Department of Health (3 years), and a policy advisor at the US Department of Labor (7 years). In my jobs and particularly at the DC Department of Health and US Department of Labor, I had speaking obligations as a regular part of my job. These included conducting briefings to staff or senior officials, leading presentations and meetings to audiences of anywhere from 10 to 30 people, conducting webinars (including one with an audience of 1000), and giving remarks to large audiences (anywhere from 50 to 500 people). I have also served as an MC at cultural and charity events with large audiences.
