After my daughter began becoming frustrated in Honors Chemistry and getting Cs and Ds on tests, we looked for a tutor through WyzAnt and began working with Carol. Carol worked with Rachel about once a week for a full quarter and helped her complete her homework packets, study for quizzes/tests, and study for her semester final exam. Carol's approach really worked for Rachel. Carol would ask Rachel questions and look at Rachel's work to figure out how much Rachel already understood and then go from there. Carol also gave Rachel positive feedback about what she already understood - like "O.K. - so you understand that," which really helped Rachel see that she wasn't "stupid" (Rachel's words, and a big block for her), gave her some confidence, and helped motivate her to keep working. Rachel also felt like she always solved the problem - Carol would guide her along with questions and then explain the concepts that were giving Rachel difficulty. Rachel has a tendency to stall out if she doesn't understand something immediately, and, from what I can tell, this never happened with Carol; every session was extremely positive and Rachel always came home feeling like she understood the material and could do it on her own. Rachel went into the tutoring sessions with a C average, and ended the quarter with a solid A average. She also felt very good going into her Semester final. Although the improvement in Rachel's grades was really important, the key for me was that Carol helped Rachel go from feeling confused and "stupid" (her words) to feeling comfortable and pretty confident about Chemistry. Both of us are grateful.
Ms. Carol is a great tutor. She explains things very well and she is very responsive. If she does not have a previous engagement she can often make herself available at the last minutes. My son's grade have improved by two letter grades in just one semester. I highly recommend her.
Carol was absolutely phenomenal! She worked very well with my Daughter. She was very patient, comprehensive and significantly impacted my daughter’s grade within the first few sessions. I highly recommend Carol to ANYONE seeking help in Chemistry.
Ms. Carol is an excellent tutor. She thoroughly and patiently explains all aspects of chemistry. I highly recommend her!
Carol G. is a miracle worker! My son was struggling with his Chemistry class and after a few sessions with Carol, his grade and his confidence improved tremendously. Carol goes beyond helping with the current assignment by actually teaching the subject matter. She even covered areas that were not covered in my son’s class. She is patient and flexible. My son, who has not responded well to tutors in the past, really liked her and respected her expertise and her authority. Carol is an excellent tutor. I highly recommend her.
Mrs. G is a master in chemistry, and even more importantly, a masterful chemistry teacher. There is good reason why she won the Leo Shubert Memorial Award for most talented high school chemistry teacher. Having taught high school chemistry for many years, she is completely knowledgeable of the subject matter and understands how to approach the teenage mind. She is very kind and has an easy-going personality. She was always at our sessions on time and prepared for the subject matter at hand. She was easy to contact and responded to email immediately. She has three dimensional models to help demonstrate some of the abstract topics and is very patient in her approach to some of the more difficult material. Furthermore, she knows what information is and is not covered on various national Chemistry exams. A GREAT tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
