Teaching is one of my favorite professional activities. I enjoy each stage of teaching, including preparing the teaching materials, the actual teaching of the subject, interacting with the students and evaluating my teaching. Although it may be stressful to prepare teaching materials and to handle the needs of students, both the instructor and students should feel interested in teaching and learning and transform any pressure into positive motivation towards the subject. This transformation will bring maximum fruitful learning results. These ideas are suitable for all kinds of subjects, including language learning and music instruments.
Besides, it is important to emphasize learning through students’ practice. For example, when teaching Chinese, I always like to create opportunities for students to practice listening, speaking, reading and writing skills during and after class. Good interactions are key to good learning. When teaching drums, I make sure students can play certain skills before he or she moves to the next stage.
I also will help point out the student’s weakness and help him or her overcome it privately. At the same time, I encourage students to maximize the limited class meeting time to make improvement.
Finally, creativity is a crucial element for learning all subjects, especially for language learning. When preparing class materials, besides the textbook or source books, I always like to find other interesting resources to use in the class. For example, funny stories, short jokes, video clips, songs and short poems can all become creative sources for learning Chinese. The idea of employing creativity for learning is to further motivate their interests and make students more familiar with the learning materials.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
