About Sujata

Hello!

I am a dedicated teacher and mentor with the drive to share my experience! I earned a PhD in Biochemistry with a Nobel Laureate and I taught college level chemistry classes at Top Ranked Tier 1 Institutions.

In Tutoring, I emphasize understanding the fundamental concepts and use the Khan Academy materials to reinforce materials from sessions. I'm a big fan of using puzzles (especially in Organic Chemistry) to teach critical thinking.

Overall, I bring my diverse experiences in teaching undergraduates, high school students, and even research to drive thinking, discussion, and learning.

Additionally, I offer my experience to youth in my community. I love engaging young people who have a furtive interest in learning and advancing their skills in academic skills and transferable skills! It brings me great joy to watch a student grasp a concept and excel! I continue to improve my presentation skills by practicing Public Speaking as well as being a civic leader in the community. I've been a speaker at community events and larger gatherings, as well as having excellent experience in presenting scientific material at international conferences.

I have worked with several continuing learners of all age groups in advancing computer skills, writing skills, and life coaching.

I hope that I can help you or your student advance in any of the following areas.
HIGH SCHOOL: Biology, pre-Algebra thru AP Calculus, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, ACT Math/Science, SAT Math.

COLLEGE: Biology, Biochemistry, General Chemistry, Genetics, Organic Chemistry, Chemistry Lab Skills, Physical Chemistry (Quantum), pre-Algebra thru Calculus, Logic, GRE test prep, MCAT Chemistry.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: Public Speaking, Speech Writing, Life Coaching (Certificate in Coaching)

Additional Notes:
- GROUP LESSONS available at reduced rates! Learn with a neighbor or friend!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biochemistry

I have a doctoral degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry. I've spoken and published on topics in biochemistry at the American Chemical Society Conference in 2010 in Boston, MA. Additionally, I've been a founding member of a startup for which I co-invented a biochemistry-based technology.

Biology

My PhD was in the field of chemistry and Biochemistry. I've taken courses in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and Computational Biology, in addition to basic Biology courses. I have worked with living biological cells and my thesis topic was observing the effectiveness of the cellular uptake ("eating") system and how we could trick cancer cells to "eat" cancer killing drugs.

Organic Chemistry

I taught two organic chemistry labs at UCSD in addition to working in an organic laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University. Additionally I received a B in organic chemistry I and an A in organic chemistry II while at CMU. Also I've taken bio-organic chemistry. I have publications verifying my organic chemistry work in lab.

I organized quizzes and tests for Organic Chemistry lab as well as led recitation for that class.

My most memorable and challenging question for my students was an intramolecular fisher esterification reaction using a 5-carboxy pentan-1-ol. They still write me about that one.

Public Speaking

Hello,
I'm a Toastmasters International Member and I've conducted 2 Youth Leadership Programs for Middle and High School Students sponsored by Toastmasters Club 5759 in Strongsville, OH as well as participating weekly for the last 2 years in this club. I've also attended the local Toastmasters District 10 Conferences.

I've completed my first level of public speaking accomplishment at Toastmasters: Competent Communicator Certification. To complete this I have given 10 speeches in areas like "Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.'s shared Ideas and Ideals," "It'll be just 1 minute: Using journaling to become more mindful," "The Ice-breaker: Embracing the Nerd I Am."

Thanks.
