Experienced, creative and responsible describe me and my tutoring methods. I've been teaching English as a second language in the Washington, D.C. and Silver Spring, Maryland area for more than ten years. I can help with reading, writing, pronunciation, listening and speaking skills. Small groups, classroom settings, and private tutoring are all part of my repertoire. In addition to working from language learning books, I like to include YouTube, digital stories and other online viewing to build vocabulary, listening and speaking skills. Typically we would first do a pre-listening activity to prepare for viewing, view a short video once or twice, then discuss.
I have a Master's degree in International Relations from Tufts University in Boston and am currently enrolled as a graduate student at American University, where I am almost finished a Master's degree in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
