Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is one of my favorite and most popular tutoring subjects. In addition to my B.A. in mathematics, I have been tutoring Algebra 1 through Calculus for about 5 years with great success. My strategy generally includes confidence building, organization, and study skills in addition to helping students with the math material itself.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is another one of my favorite and most popular tutoring subjects. In addition to my B.A. in mathematics, I have been tutoring Algebra 1 through Calculus for about 5 years with great success. My strategy generally includes confidence building, organization, and study skills in addition to helping students with the math material itself.

Calculus

Calculus is my favorite and one of my most popular tutoring subjects. In addition to my B.A. in mathematics, I have been tutoring Algebra 1 through Calculus for about 5 years with great success. My strategy generally includes confidence building, organization, and study skills in addition to helping students with the math material itself.

English

When I took the ACT and SAT in October 2008, I scored in the 99% and 95% percentiles respectively for the English portions. I took both AP English and AP Literature in high school and have taken English classes in college.

Finite Math

In completing my bachelor's degree in mathematics, I took many courses that included using math logic (compound statements, acceptable proof methods, etc.), sequences and series, sets and partitions, vectors, matrices, basic probability, graph theory, and linear algebra. As Finite Mathematics can include all of these things, my thorough background enables me to help students through any variation on this course.

Geometry

Geometry is a challenging transition point for some students. I am here to help! In addition to my B.A. in mathematics, I have been tutoring Algebra 1 through Calculus for about 5 years with great success. My strategy generally includes confidence building, organization, and study skills in addition to helping students with the math material itself.

Government & Politics

In addition to my B.A. in political science, I have been tutoring for about 5 years with great success. With Government and Politics, the biggest struggle is usually organizing/remembering the information to create a coherent picture. My tutoring strategy generally includes confidence building, organization, and study skills in addition to helping students with the material itself.

Grammar

When I took the ACT and SAT in October 2008, I scored in the 99% and 95% percentiles respectively for the English portions. I took both AP English and AP Literature in high school and have taken English classes in college.

Linear Algebra

I studied Linear Algebra as part of my bachelor's degree in mathematics and find that it presents a unique challenge for students. Unlike the calculus progressions, which all seem to build logically from one another, linear algebra is a sort of side step away from the math that most students have encountered up until this point. As such, this course is very conceptual and so tutoring requires much more time focusing on the new terminology- dissecting what the problem is asking before we can conquer it.

Literature

When I took the ACT and SAT in October 2008, I scored in the 99% and 95% percentiles respectively for the English portions. I took both AP English and AP Literature in high school and have taken English classes in college.

Political Science

In addition to my B.A. in political science, I have been tutoring for about 5 years with great success. With political science, the biggest struggle is often organizing the information to create a coherent image of the topic. My tutoring strategy generally includes confidence building, organization, and study skills- in addition to helping students with the material itself.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is often a startling transition for students. In addition to my B.A. in mathematics, I have been tutoring Algebra through Calculus for about 5 years with great success. My strategy generally includes confidence building, organization, and study skills in addition to helping students with the math material itself.

Precalculus

Precalculus is another one of my favorite and most popular tutoring subjects. In addition to my B.A. in mathematics, I have been tutoring Algebra 1 through Calculus for about 5 years with great success. My strategy generally includes confidence building, organization, and study skills in addition to helping students with the math material itself.

Reading

When I took the ACT and SAT in October 2008, I scored in the 99% and 95% percentiles respectively for the English portions. I took both AP English and AP Literature in high school and have taken English classes in college.

Study Skills

My tutoring method relies heavily on organization, confidence building, and study strategies. Throughout my college experience, I was a double major (math and political science) and varsity athlete with extracurricular activities and a part-time job. I learned that the best way to juggle everything successfully was to stay organized and study efficiently. Now I work hard to make sure that every one of my students can do the same.

Vocabulary

When I took the ACT and SAT in October 2008, I scored in the 99% and 95% percentiles respectively for the English portions. I took both AP English and AP Literature in high school and have taken English classes in college.

Spot on work — Haley is very good at listening to Jackie and understanding what her concerns are about her math assignments and exams. Jackie comes away from the lesson with a clearer understanding and more confidence. I am especially happy that they are working on strategies to complete problems. Sorting problems into "types" and effective solution strategies is a habit that I want her to develop as she progr ...
