I am a college sophomore majoring in Biology and contacted Barry for assistance in preparing for my General Physics final exam. Barry met me at home, as well as at school, was always prompt in returning calls and emails, and was patient when I needed things to be slowed down or repeated. He made sure I conceptually understood ideas and equations before applying them to problems, which solidified my understanding of physics and allowed me to approach questions I had never seen before. Barry is an all-around excellent tutor. Five stars.
He takes the time to show them not just how to do the problems but takes the time to make sure they truly understand the foundation of mathematics. Such an important piece that is not taught in standard classrooms today. Also such a confidence building tutor.
Barry has an excellent understanding of Linear Algebra. He gives plenty of examples. I have learned a lot. He is extremely patient. He is an excellent tutor.
My daughter and I have been very pleased with Barry's tutoring for her AP Physics BC class. He quickly zoned in on the need for my daughter to understand the "why"behind the "what." He helps her make connections from unit to unit, allowing her to her realize that she does already understand much of the course content.
Scheduling has been easy and convenient. Barry has been flexible and clearly for him tutoring is far more about loving to help the kids out than making money, which I also appreciate. I recommend him highly.
Great Professor! Very knowledgeable and patient. He tutored my son college level math. My son likes him very much. Will recommend to everyone.
Barry has worked with my son on pre-calc for 5 sessions, and my son's grade has gone from a D- to a C+. Barry really gets back to basics and makes sure the student understands the concepts so that they can determine how to go about solving the problems. Barry is an excellent tutor.
Barry provided our son with an incredible amount of physics knowledge over a 5 week period. He was easy to work with, always on time and totally committed to helping Cameron do well on his Physics SAT2 Subject test.
I would highly recommend Barry to anyone.
Barry was very professional and understanding. He was able to meet me within a day of my posting and was highly experienced with Discrete Mathematics. He was able to quickly help with the course content and provide the "human" aspect of learning during my online course. I would definitely recommend him to others.
Barry held his first session with my son today. He is soft-spoken, even-toned, and patient. A good listener, he took the time to get to know my son's math background, and quickly ascertained where his weaknesses and strengths are. They got to work right away, and my son found him very easy to work with. I started this week a bit worried about whether my son was ready for calculus, but today I am more confident that with a bit of guidance, he'll do just fine.
Barry has been great! I am in an accelerated on line program with a professor who does not provide enough learning materials. Barry works through the problems with me (advanced math- differential equations). Very patient and great at explaining things. He goes back to the fundamentals to explain why a "common substitution" works.
Our son's pre-calc final was today, so last night was Barry's last session with him. Mike felt very confident going into the the test and came home feeling good about it, too. We have been so pleased with how Barry worked with Mike and how he respected and admired Mike's abilities. He took time to get to know Mike's interests and future plans so he could both encourage Mike and give him pointers for achieving his goals. We would highly recommend Barry F. for other students who need help. All that and he's a very nice man, too!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Tutoring in advanced applied mathematics. I provide a clear understanding of characteristics and approach to solution of all types of differential equations and approach to solutions. Typical types of equations are:
Ordinary Differential Equations
General Linear Equations
Systems of Ordinary differential Equations
Partial Differential Equations via separation of variables
Fourier Series solutions
Other Harmonic Function solutions (Hilbert Transforms, etc)
Boundary value problems
Application of Linear Algebra (Vectors and Matrices) to solutions of Differential Equations
Application of Linear Algebra to characterize equations
Working consulting scientist and former adjunct professor at Drexel University and Villinova University in Pennsylvania. Work with advanced mathematical techniques and applications of those techiques to engineering problems. If you want a clear and concise explanation of various discrete mathematics topics and applications, I am your tutor.
Selected areas of discrete mathematics:
Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors
Banach and Hilbert Spaces
If you do not see the topic you are looking for here, contact me with your area of interest and I will let you know if I can help you.
Linear algebra is the study of vectors, matrices, tensors, etc. associated with a coordinate system (Cartesian-Euclidean, cylindrical, spherical, curve-linear, etc.). Central to the theme of linear algebra is the concept of linear transformation. I am a consulting scientist in the Washington DC area and use linear algebra in my daily work to characterize and solve multi-dimensional problems. I studied linear algebra at the Case Institute of Technology and have tutored a number of college students in Matrices and Linear Algebra. I have also tutored students in the application of linear algebra to solving (1) systems of linear equations and (2) using linear algebra to solving complex, linear circuits.
