I recently returned to the United States after working in Thailand for over a decade. I am a native English speaker and certified as an advanced Thai speaker (High-Mid Level) by the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL). I am also intermediate level in Burmese.
I first traveled to Thailand as a volunteer teaching English to blind children in Khon Kaen in 1993. When I returned from that trip, I continued studying Thai at the University of Oregon, where I majored in international relations with a focus on Southeast Asia.
I graduated in 1996, and moved to Chiang Mai, where I completed the Advanced Study of Thai Program (AST). I was then employed as as a researcher at the Social Development and Research Center of Chiang Mai University for one year.
I completed my master's degree in political science in 2005 and worked as a researcher for an international organization on issues affecting migrants and refugees from Burma/Myanmar from 2005-2015.
I am currently looking for work in the DC Area and would love to reconnect to Thailand by helping Thai speakers better understand English. As an advanced Thai speaker, I have insight into common mistakes native Thai speakers make in English. I also have a solid understanding of Thai culture and history that most native English speakers lack.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
