Tom is the best tutor we've had so far and I really mean it. He started working with my daughter with IB Chemistry last school year and helped my son with Honors Geometry this summer. He is very knowledgeable, professional, patient and makes himself available around times my kids really needed him for a test/quiz. Both my kids felt very comfortable with Tom. They actually enjoyed the tutoring sessions and requested these themselves. I strongly recommend Tom and we will continue to request his help while my kids are in high school.
My daughter was struggling with organic chemistry in college and Tom tutored her 3 times. Just after the first class her confidence level increased drastically and she was grasping it better. He's very knowledgeable and patient. My daughter really loves his way of teaching and will definitely be having him tutor her soon.
Tom, taught my daughter new strategy preparing her SAT test. He guide her step by step patiently and he manage his time well. My daughter likes him and the way he teach. She did the test with more confidence, and I hope to see great result on her test.

He's helping my son with Algebra 1 and my son is really turning the corner his knowledge of algebra has increased since working with Tom. We are very pleased!
Tom is a very good tutor who really gets to know how your child learns and then teaches based on that. My son feels like he is learning a lot from Tom and really likes working with him. By far best tutor I have ever had for any of my kids!
We used Thomas as a tutor for the first time yesterday for our daughter's honors chemistry course. Their session went really well. Thomas reviewed the material ahead of time and came prepared to get right down to the material to be covered. I have a strong sense of his tutoring skills and mastery and highly recommend him.
Thomas has been working with my son on Calculus and really done a great job. My son has struggled with the teacher's explanations, and Thomas has used different approaches to help breakdown problems and explain materials. Particularly helpful on "limits".
Thomas helped me prepare for my Precalculus Final. I was very nervous because I didn't do too well on my pre-test. Thomas was able to simplify a lot of the problems for me and increased my confidence. I passed my test thanks to Thomas.
My son is struggling in Honors Pre-Cal and after one session he has a better understanding of what he did wrong on his test and is feeling more confident! We are definitely scheduling on-going sessions with Thomas to finish out this school year! Thanks Thomas and we look forward to our next session!
We focused on GRE math. Thomas was always on time and very professional. He knew the subject well and his explanations were clear and simple.
Great first lesson. My son is excited to begin a 13 week preparation period for the SSAT and Tom is largely responsible for it. Looking forward to continued progress as his preparation deepens.
Excellent, experienced and responsive ACT Tutor! We could not have asked for more. My stepson now feels more confident and better prepared after just one session. We'll definitely be calling on him again!
We reached out to Tom midway through the year in a very challenging advanced high school chemistry course. Tom was an excellent tutor for our son and helped him obtain a mastery of the materials that we could not have imagined when we started working together. Tom and our son formed a real bond, and our son truly enjoyed their work together and the opportunity to understand the material at a deeper level while also keeping up with what was a frankly ridiculous amount of homework assignments and tests. Tom is very good at what he does, very patient and able to steer the discussion back to the work at hand while also keeping things engaging and fun. He is very reliable and knows his stuff. We cannot recommend Tom more highly.
Thomas tutored me this summer in organic chemistry for a 6 week condensed class and seriously saved my grade. Ochem tends to bring out the neurotic side of people and he had a very calming presence. As a former professor, Thomas is extremely well versed in the subject and is very patient in explaining it to the student, regardless of how many explanations it may take until it sinks in. His pace tends to be a bit more leisurely, so if you're taking an accelerated class, I would recommend arriving with specific questions and a plan for what you want to accomplish during the session. Overall he was very professional, is an excellent tutor, and I would 100% recommend him!
We went over a practice test that my professor had posted, explaining each answer and going through all of the steps. It gave me more confidence for my upcoming test.
Our 10th grade son ran into problems understanding the material a few days before his chemistry final. We had never met Thomas before, yet he came over on short notice and worked with our son for two hours. I overheard parts of the lesson and it sounded very understandable, and Thomas was very friendly and patient. Our son was so relieved after the tutoring lesson that his demeanor changed from night unto day. He says he has no doubt that he will do much better on his test than he would have without Thomas. We have asked Thomas is he will tutor our son on a regular basis next year, as he is taking the AP Chemistry II next year.
I was completely lost in my Organic Chemistry class until I met with Dr. Thomas. He was really able to accomodate to my learning patterns & truly cared about having me understand the material. Due to Dr. Thomas's help I passed my Organic Chemistry I class! Thank you so much Dr. Thomas!!
Tom was an incredible organic chemistry tutor. I found him the second semester of organic chemistry. Organic chemistry had been a breeze for me the first semester but it unexpectedly ramped up for the second semester and I went from getting A's on my test to having my first B, even though I was studying and participating in class the same way I had the first semester. After getting Tom, my grades leapt from B's to A's by the end of the semester. Tom was able to patiently walk me through synthesis problems and point out what I was doing incorrectly. He helped me figure out my weak spots in organic chemistry and got me from the path to memorizing steps to understanding how to use the tools I was taught in organic chemistry to see the bigger picture of the problems. I was able to maintain A's in a very difficult class thanks to Tom.
Mr. Thomas C is very knowledgeable in Chemistry. He tutored my daughters in AP Chemistry. As a tutor he was very patient, has excellent command of the subject and was able to help my daughters through areas they needed additional help with. They found the session with him to be helpful.

Tom was able to quickly assess my son's abilities and provide guidance in pre calculus over a two week period of time such that my son was successful on his math placement test at UMD.
I was studying to take the SAT a second time and started tutoring with Tom. He helped me go from an 1840 to a 2060. I focused on math the most and it went from a 580 to a 700. I'm very pleased with my score results. I'm sure I would have scored much higher if I did not have a lot of school work on my plate as well. Great tutor!
Thomas's responsibility and accountability come along with his knowledge and expertise that exceed my expectation to meet my daughter's need.
My son was very happy to work with Thomas. He said he learned a lot and that Thomas made it easy to understand complex algebraic problems. He was also excited to see how cool working on really complex advanced problems could be. Great job
Thomas was very helpful in preparing for a chemistry test. I understood everything after we met and was even able to help a couple friends in class with what Thomas went over with me. I will definitely meet with him again for both chemistry and calculus.
Thomas helped me to begin reviewing for the vocabulary portion of the SAT's. He was very patient and would thoroughly go over the parts I didn't understand.
My son transferred to a physics course several weeks after school started. Thomas helped him prepare for his first test covering material that he missed. Still waiting for the results of the test but my son seemed to understand the material after his session and appeared confident going into the exam.

Can't recommend him highly enough. Thanks!
Thomas spend time getting to know my two boys and spoke to them about interesting facts regarding the English language. They found him to be very interesting and very patient. They're looking forward to the next lesson!
Tom helped me better comprehend some very complex and multi-faceted biochemistry equations/problems. The logic he clarified will aid anyone with difficulty around Kinetics, Thermodynamics, Energetics, and Equilibrium. If you are contemplating hiring a tutor for that extra expertise to help get you over the hump, I assure you, you will be glad you enlisted his help! Good luck!
Tom really helped me out with concepts I didn't understand, and he gave me lots of confidence for my exams. His methods are really effective, and he is very encouraging!
Thomas tutored my grandson in Algebra, my grandson is very shy, but he felt comfortable working with Thomas. He would like to continue working with him.
Very helpful and able to provide multiple examples concerning a specific topic. He has helped me understand topics and mechanisms rather than trying to memorize.
Went over how to construct and ICE table from here experimental data for the oxidation of ethanol by NAD+ to acetaldehyde as catalyzed by alcohol dehydrogenase. We talked about how to calculate the equilibrium concentration of NADH from absorbance data, and how to calculate the equilibrium concentrations of the reactants and acetaldehyde.
Thomas tutored me in Organic Chemistry. He was both comprehensive and detailed in explaining the concepts and mechanisms to me.
Tom helped me get a better sense of what was happening at a fundamental, molecular level that I could not visualize on my own with images in the textbook. My only wish is that I had had more time to cover more ground in our hour. He was very clear and I really appreciate his help, especially on such last-minute notice!

Tom tutored me through most of Organic Chemistry I and started me on Organic chemistry II. Tom is great at explaining chemistry and is always willing to try to accommodate my hectic schedule. He was able to try different methods of teaching when 1 didn't work (drawing out the diagrams, listing mechanisms, and repetition). He went out of his way and did the homework with me and handed me the notes he took with me (considering mine weren't legible half the time). Over the months that he has tutored me, I have learned that Tom is committed not only to my success in organic chemistry, but also to my successfully reaching my long-term goal of becoming a doctor. I would recommend Tom to anyone looking for a smart, patient, and caring tutor. He is also very easy to communicate with and will travel.
He is a good tutor. We were unprepared for the session and he still moved forward like a true professional. I would highly recommend this person as a math tutor.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Fair or not, we often find ourselves being judged by whether or not we use correct grammar. Knowing the rules of Standard English is, therefore, important for making a good first impression in everything from job applications to admissions essays and interviews. Throughout my education and work as a professional scientist and educator, I have been a serious student of the English grammar. Nevertheless, I like to use humor in my teaching of grammar, because, after all, many rules are contradictory and subject to exceptions. My teaching style is non-judgemental and intended to help you easily switch between Standard and colloquial English as the situation requires.
The GRE is a crucial part of your application to graduate school; in fact, some graduate schools place more emphasis on your GRE scores than they do on your GPA.
