Ningbo Institute of Education (Education)
Hello! My name is Xianhong (Hong). I was born and raised in Mainland China. Naturally, I am fluent in Chinese. More than that though, I am educated in child development and have many years' experience as a teacher in both foreign and domestic schools. I received my Bachelor's in teaching from a university in Ningbo, China (near Shanghai). After that, I spent two years teaching both Mandarin and English at an international kindergarten in Ningbo. It was a joy to teach children from all countries, from American, to Australian, to Korean, and Chinese. I came to America over two years ago. Since then, I have taught Mandarin at a language school, a public charter school, and a Montessori daycare. I have had a lot of success private tutoring, and I am looking to make that my full time job. I hope I get the pleasure of teaching your child Mandarin!
I love teaching, and I love children. Under 8 years old is my specialty, but I have students of all ages (one of my students is in college). My lessons involve artwork, music, singing, and are all-around interactive experiences. I try to make my lessons as fun as possible. I believe children learn best when they are engaged in learning, not when they are being asked to repeat words out of a book. If your child loves being creative, he or she will love my lessons . . . and become fluent in Mandarin! Hello! My name is Xianhong (Hong). I was born and raised in Mainland China. I like her teaching style. My girls are already fluent in Chinese and while she was unfamiliar with the workbooks we brought back from China she was able to zone in on what the girls needed to learn. She added games to the second half of the lesson which reinforced their learning and provided some fun.
She is a great tutor with a lot of energy. She is great with my kid. My kid really enjoyed her lesson.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
