Hi! My name is Shannon. I am a highly experienced, state licensed Pk-3rd grade teacher. I am currently employed as a Kindergarten teacher with Prince George's County Public Schools. I received a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education from University of Maryland College Park. I also have extensive experience tutoring as well. My most recent client was a fist grade student who was reading 4 levels below grade level, after working with me twice a week for one hour for four months she was reading on grade level.
I am very passionate about working with students in order to help them have a positive outlook on education as well as achieve their academic goals. I am outgoing, creative and build my curriculum around the needs of each individual student. I enjoy working closely with both the student and families in order to ensure that the goals for the student are being met. I look forward to working working with you and your child!
I am an outstanding reading and grammar tutor because have a fundamental understanding of how to teach reading using a variety of strategies. Being a kindergarten teacher, it is my responsibility to provide students with the basics of reading as well as the tools to independently advance their skill sets.
During my ongoing employment with the county, I have planned and taught my students using solely the common core curriculum. I was also trained extensively though University of Maryland as well as Prince George's County Public Schools in how to properly teach the common core curriculum.
I am a highly qualified to teach elementary math because I have the understanding of how to teach math fundamentals through my years of teaching kindergarten. I also am able to show students how to build upon their basic math skills in order to enhance their thinking and understanding of more complex math concepts.
I am qualified to to teach phonics based of my degree in early childhood education which focused on building phonics and pre-reading skills, that students will then build on in order to become confident readers.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
