My daughter - 8 years - has been learning a lot from Laurie in little time. Laurie has been great in teaching her and comes ALWAYS prepared for the lesson with techniques, learning tricks, and material. We are very glad we met Laurie and hope to continue with her for a long long time. Thanks Laurie.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have passed the elementary math test, prealgebra, reading, writing and vocabulary tests. I have raised three children and have great patience with children. I taught young children piano when I was younger. I was a certified French teacher in Secondary Education, but I am planning on teaching ESOL to both young and older students in the next school year. I have passed my Praxis II in ESOL, and I am certified to teach ESOL in the State of Maryland.
I am a certified ESOL teacher in the State of Maryland. I am a native English speaker. I received my TESOL Training Certificate in December from Montgomery College after 16 credits. I am currently teaching ESOL two nights a week and tutoring as well.
I have recently retired from a long career in law and human resources.
I studied piano (including classical) from the time I was 6 until 17. I continued to play through the years - I taught some children when I was in my late teens beginning piano.
I then took piano lessons at the School of Music in Rockville for 4 more years within the last six years. I am very good at sight reading. My original teacher from about 6 years ago said I was the best sight-reader that she teaches.
I have been tutoring elementary students from grades three through five since the beginning of this year.
I have worked with them on prioritizing homework assignments and projects, test taking skills as well as reading comprehension and writing skills.
I don't just ask them to do an assignment. I ask them about different ways to plan it and complete it.
I am a semi-retired lawyer and HR professional. I love to write, and I hope to communicate this love to my students. I am extremely patient.
I am a certified ESOL teacher in the State of Maryland, and I completed my TESOL certificate in December of 2013.
